DRSwollen tonsils and adenoids are a sign of body’s inflammatory response to abnormal microflora. Partially oxygen-breathing microbes populate nasal passages when they are not used to nasal breathing.
This creates a vicious circle of events increasing mouth breathing and predisposing to permanent inflammation within the nasal sinuses.
Maxillary expansion in primary dentition disrupts this vicious circle and allows to redevelop normal airway size.

CAHis voice before & after his tonsil and adenoid surgery.
The difference is incredible!!! Before surgery, he constantly sounded congested, his breathing and snoring were very loud, and it was clear he was uncomfortable at night. He had grade 4 “kissing” tonsils and grade 4 adenoids that had grown up into his nasal cavity, blocking over 75% of his airway.
