Quick tip to stop leaking when you run! 🏃🏻‍♀️ It may be as simple as letting your abs GO! If your find yourself constantly engaging your core while you run, because that’s what you’ve been told, or maybe you think it will stop your leaking... LET IT GO!! Our core includes the diaphragm (top), pelvic floor (bottom), abs (front and sides), and spinal stabilizers (back). All of these muscles must synchronize and manage pressures as we move and run. If you’re gripping your abs throughout the run, you’re preventing your diaphragm and pelvic floor, 2 main portions of the core, from doing their thing. On top of that, you’re putting downward pressure onto the pelvic floor when constantly engaging your abs. How the heck do you expect to NOT leak when you’re pushing onto your pelvic floor the whole time? Try letting your belly go, feeling yourself breathe there instead of up in your chest. Think about inhaling for 4 steps, and exhaling for 6. The “PSOAS” Muscle ‼️‼️‼️ Your True Core!!! ⚠️Three muscles connect the legs to the spine (psoas, piriformis and gluteus maximus) but only the psoas connects from the front of the body and to the lumbar spine. ⚠️Your true core involves a very specialized muscle called the “psoas” which lies deep against the posterior abdominal wall. ⚠️Every time you lift your knee, the psoas contracts. When your leg swings back, the psoas lengthens. ⚠️When we fail to use the psoas and walk correctly the pelvis tends to get stuck and hike up from side to side rather than tilt and rotate. ⚠️When the psoas muscle is shortened and tight, it has the ability to pull the vertebrae of the back forward.  This forward pull creates an increased curve at the low back.  It is natural to have some degree of a curve at the low back, but an excessive curve increases pressure where it does not belong and thus may cause pain. ⚠️If the skeleton is well aligned which means the leg bones, or femurs, are directly under the pelvis, the psoas can initiate each step from the deep core. What this looks like when walking is a foot that falls under the knee and relatively close to the pelvis, equidistant from the opposite leg. ⚠️The body that moves well is a self-healing machine and that healing only happens with a functional psoas. #psoasrelease #psoasstretch #psoas #heal #truecore #core #holisticlifestyle #body #recoveryjourney
