My partner took 3 months leave when our baby was born. To make this happen we had to get our heads round the shared family leave policy at his company, the maternity leave policy at mine, and the government statutory leave policy. Here’s how we did it… With all the annual leave I carried over from 2024, plus the accrued bank holidays, I was able to take 12 months of leave (10 maternity leave + 2 annual leave). Those last two months of maternity leave allowance is what I gave to Matt for his shared parental leave. So he ended up taking… 2 weeks paternity leave 2 months shared parental leave 2 weeks annual leave 1 week office closure for Christmas It made so much sense for us as I would have had to take my annual leave before the end of 2025 anyway, plus I wasn’t being paid for those last three months of maternity leave. By changing the last two months to annual leave instead, I could give that time to Matt since his company had a great shared parental leave policy. Add that to his standard government leave and the office closing for Christmas and we managed to spend the first three months as new parents together. 💖 Looking back I’m so grateful we had that time together. I definitely wasn’t ready to lose his support after only two weeks - I hadn’t even recovered from my c section yet! #sharedparentalleave #maternityleave #paternityleave #twoweeksisnotenough

Filmed this two weeks ago and wasn’t sure if I should post it; because, well, I cried. Unexpectedly. I feel like we don’t talk enough about how hard moving abroad is. We tiptoe around it, like we’re scared of being judged. But let’s be real; relocating is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It’s lonely. Nowhere really feels like home anymore. Some days, I’ll be out, maybe at an event, and it suddenly hits me; we’re just a handful of Africans here. And in that moment, I realize: damn, I’m really alone. Don’t get me wrong, I still see my family. I live with my sister, and we do endless group calls with the rest of my siblings. But it’s not the same. I used to live five minutes from two of my closest friends. I could just pull up whenever. But not anymore. The distance doesn't allow it. But hey, it’s all part of the journey. And I do love my life in Canada; it’s just... hard sometimes. And lonely. So, if you’re a Nigerian in Canada (and if you are particularly in Edmonton), say hi below! Let’s build our little community. ❤️

25 Weeks 🤰 This week has been… a lot🫣 I got the results back from my 50ml glucose screening test — and they’re elevated. So now I need to do the extended glucose tolerance test. Simple enough, right? Well, not really. My current clinic refuses to do the test, saying that since I already have an appointment scheduled in two weeks with a new doctor in another city (we’re moving), I should just wait and do it there. Apparently, you’re only allowed to switch doctors between trimesters here — who knew? But here’s the kicker: the clinic told me I’m supposed to show up with the results of the extended test already in hand. Where am I supposed to get it done? Nobody seems to care. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve been feeling completely lost and alone in all of this. My anxiety is through the roof. I’m scared I might have gestational diabetes and that it won’t be diagnosed in time. And just to keep things interesting, some new “joys” of pregnancy have shown up. Not ready to talk about them yet — they’re unpleasant and honestly pretty upsetting. Because of that, I’ve decided to scale back my practice and overall activity even more, just to be safe. It’s hard and disheartening… but I know I need to listen to my body. I also ordered some urine test strips to check for protein and infections at home, just to stay on top of things. So yeah… this week has been all about stress. And to top it off (maybe because of all this anxiety?), the baby has been moving less — which of course adds to the worry 🫠 #pregnancy #pregnancydiary #yogapregnancy
