New: Universal Design for Learning in the ESL Classroom-BLOG post-. Go to my blog and check it out: https://eflelementaryresources.blogspot.com/2026/02/universal-design-for-learning-in-esl.html Recently, I had the opportunity to attend a webinar about Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and it truly sparked my curiosity. As I listened and reflected, I began to realize that many of the resources I create already support UDL principles in the classroom. Wanting to understand more, I continued reading and exploring this approach, which inspired me to write this blog post. My goal is to introduce UDL to teachers who may not be familiar with it and to share how practical classroom resources can help make learning accessible and engaging for all students.

The prime beneficiaries are Divyang students and children from the Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups. Ensuring one book for 𝐀𝐋𝐋 learners, 8 textbooks are ready for classes 1 and 2, with handheld device that converts print to audio. This initiative brings us closer to the dream of an equitable, inclusive, and learner-friendly Bharat. By integrating touch-and-sound technology with curriculum-aligned printed textbooks, KEPA ensures equitable access to learning for all children. Designed to support diverse learning needs, KEPA embeds audio, print, tactile, Braille, Indian Sign Language (ISL) and visual cues within a single textbook, enabling children with visual, hearing, learning, physical or attention-related challenges to learn alongside their peers using the same book—with or without a handheld device. 05 Day Workshop on Accessible Feature Mapping of Textbook CIET- NCERT successfully conducted a 5-day workshop from 25th August to 29th August 2025 focused on making English Textbook, Santoor for class III, more inclusive and accessible. The workshop centered on Accessible Feature Mapping of the textbook based on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and to ensure that every child, including Children with Special Needs (CwSN), can access, understand, and engage with learning materials effectively. Prof. Bharti Kaushik, Programme Coordinator, CIET, NCERT in inaugural session shared her insights that this workshop has been a collective effort to rethink and reshape how textbooks can become more inclusive. Prof. Rajendra Pal, Head, MPD, CIET,NCERT in valedictory address, highlighted Textbooks are not just repositories of knowledge; they are bridges to learning. Prof. Amarendra Behera, Head, Planning & Research Division, CIET, NCERT, during the valedictory session, emphasized that making textbooks accessible is not just about redesigning pages, it is about redesigning opportunities. Viele glauben, mit einem Formular zu ausgleichenden Maßnahmen ist alles getan. Haken gesetzt. Thema erledigt. Aber genau da beginnt das Problem. Denn ein Formular verändert keinen Unterricht. Und ein Nachteilsausgleich hilft nur begrenzt, wenn der Unterricht selbst für viele Schüler nicht zugänglich ist. Gerade in der Sekundarstufe 2 wird oft erwartet: Jetzt müsst ihr halt. Während ADHS und Autismus nicht verschwinden, sondern einfach weniger sichtbar werden. Ich arbeite deshalb nicht nur mit ausgleichenden Maßnahmen, sondern gestalte meinen Unterricht von Anfang an anders. 👉 auf Basis von UDL (Universal Design for Learning) Das bedeutet: • Inhalte werden unterschiedlich zugänglich gemacht • Schüler bekommen verschiedene Wege zu zeigen, was sie können • Struktur, Klarheit und Regulation sind mitgedacht Kurz gesagt: Der Unterricht wird so geplant, dass möglichst viele überhaupt ins Arbeiten kommen. Und dann braucht es oft weniger „Sonderlösungen“, weil mehr Schüler von Anfang an mitgedacht sind.
