A STUDY by the Institute for the Impact of Faith in Life (IIFL) in 2025 indicates a strong, often primary, identification with Islam among British Muslims, with studies finding that 71% to 81% identify as Muslim first rather than British.
Similarly, approximately 20 years ago, A 2006 Pew survey showed 81% of British Muslims identified with their religion first, a higher rate than in other European countries like France (46%). The contrast between the two shows that British Muslims have consistently identified as Muslims first, rather than as British, over the past 20 years. Thoughts?

VIMuslims Exodus From Britain: Once again, political and social tensions in the UK over immigration and the Muslim community have reached a boiling point. A major anti-immigration rally held in London on Saturday has triggered serious concern not only across Britain but also internationally. After the protest, around 24 people were arrested, and clashes between demonstrators and police reportedly left 26 police officers seriously injured.
Who organised the rally?
The rally was held on the call of right-wing leader Tommy Robinson, where nearly one lakh+ people were seen marching toward the central streets of London. Organisers described it as a protest in the name of “freedom of speech,” but what unfolded on the ground appeared far more disturbing. During the march, slogans, posters, and provocative speeches against immigration — and especially against the Muslim community — further intensified the atmosphere.
Hate slogans and violence
In several areas, the situation reportedly went out of control. Police tried to manage the crowd, but in some places protesters attempted to break barricades and allegedly pelted stones at police personnel. Many officers were injured during the chaos. Extra security forces were deployed to restore order, and in some areas traffic and public transport services were temporarily disrupted.
One slogan in particular became a major talking point:
“The people we once enslaved are now enslaving us.”
This line is now being widely criticised as a clear display of racist and anti-Muslim mindset.
Fear and anger within the Muslim community
Muslim communities in the UK have described the rally as an act of hate and intimidation. Several Muslim organisations and human rights groups have demanded strict action from the government, saying such rallies deepen divisions and raise serious concerns about minority safety.
