At the U SPORTS Swimming Championships on Saturday night in Quebec City, UBC Thunderbirds’ head coach Derrick Schoof and Toronto Varsity Blues’ head coach Byron MacDonald joined their athletes’ post-win swim.
🏊♂️ “It’s been a long time since I jumped in the pool, but this is a special team and I think it called for it this time around,” said Thunderbirds head coach Derrick Schoof.
🏊♀️ MacDonald, the 2022 Fox 40 U SPORTS Coach of the Year, said, “Our women swam absolutely out of their mind. There is a saying that when you win a big banner, it means a lot to you and you have to jump in the water so I had to go with the girls here.”
Congratulations to all participants, coaches, athletes and staff for a successful event two years in the making!

Samedi soir, à Québec, lors des Championnats canadiens de natation U SPORTS, l’entraineur-chef des Thunderbirds de UBC, Derrick Schoof, et l’entraineur-chef des Varsity Blues de Toronto, Byron MacDonald, se sont joints aux athlètes lors de la célébration de leur victoire.
🏊♂️ « Ça fait longtemps que je n’ai pas sauté dans la piscine, mais cette équipe-là est spéciale et je pense que c’était mérité cette fois-ci », explique l’entraineur-chef des Thunderbirds, Derrick Schoof.
🏊♀️ MacDonald, nommé entraineur de l’année Fox 40 U SPORTS 2022, a pour sa part dit : « Nos nageuses ont tout simplement été spectaculaires. On dit que quand on remporte une bannière importante, c’est important à nos yeux et on doit sauter dans l’eau. Alors, je devais me joindre aux nageuses. »
Félicitations aux participants, aux entraineurs, aux athlètes et aux membres du personnel de soutien d’avoir fait de cet évènement une réussite après deux ans de travail !
