MIThis is melanoma.
In a normal, regular, round appearing mole.
That is the challenge we currently face with skin cancer screening.
At 30 years old it is uncommon to get a melanoma. This patient had no personal history of skin cancer, but came in for skin cancer screening.
This mole, to the naked eye looks normal (even borders, round, color is fairly uniform), but on dermoscopy, as I told him in real time this mole was in fact a melanoma, but, luckily stage zero.
My objective is to find every melanoma as early as possible. How can we do this? With improving the standard for skin cancer screening by educating on dermoscopy (the zoomed in view), and changing the way skin cancer is screening is performed.
