Remember Life is Short Think about death not as something scary, but as a helpful reminder to do important things NOW. This pushes you to chase your big goals, have important conversations, and stop putting things off. 2. Use Daily Reminders Keep mortality in mind with simple tools. Carry a special coin or object that reminds you life is limited. Put meaningful quotes around your home or workspace and look at them when you need motivation. 3. Practice with Your Emotions Get comfortable with difficult feelings. Listen to sad music, then switch to happy music. Notice how feelings come and go, just like life. This makes thinking about death less scary. 4. Ask the “Deathbed Question” When you feel lost or stressed, ask yourself: “If I were dying, how much would I pay to experience this moment again?” This helps you see how valuable your current moments truly are. 5. Focus on What You Can Control Decide what you CAN change versus what you CAN’T. Spend your energy only on things you can control. Don’t waste time worrying about things outside your power. Bottom Line: Remembering that time is limited makes you appreciate today and take action on what really matters!

“I don’t understand why I’m so burnt out.” 🫣 As I unpack why I am feeling this way, I started to realize just how absorbed I was into urgency culture. I’ve always been a high-achiever but somewhere along the way, life started to feel like everything needed to happen right now. Reply faster. Work faster. Decide faster. Produce faster. Technology has sped up the way we think, corporate life rewards breakneck speed and online, it feels like everyone is 1000 steps ahead of you. So my brain began to live in a constant state of fight or flight and my nervous system can’t really tell the difference between a Slack ping and a lion chasing me. And over time, that turned into severe chronic anxiety, burnout and other mental and physical health conditions. Ironically, the worse these got, the worse my work got also. The more urgent and panicked everything felt, the more careless mistakes I made without even meaning to because my brain was simply going so fast everything became a blur. The quality I used to take pride in started slipping. That should have been my first signal. If you live in this kind of constant urgency too, you’re not broken. When you lack urgency, time just flies. It just moves faster than you can keep up with. One of the things that people say to me all the time is, you seem so calm. You seem to have an incredible sense of peace or calm, even when there’s a crisis. There’s a reason for that is because - I live my life with urgency. Time is never moving to me faster than I’m moving. When you have urgency, you’re moving faster than time, and it’s almost as if you’re already there waiting for the crisis to happen.
