Here’s to our gardens of 2026! May they be even better than before 🫶🏻 I’m looking forward to doubling the garden space (again), making room for more types of veggies, incorporating native and pollinating plants, growing medicinal herbs, doing indoor seed starting for the first time, doing more food preservation, and let’s be honest less mowing 😆

If you only have space for a few plants… make them count. 🌱 Some plants produce way more food than others, and these are a few of the most productive ones you can grow in a small garden. Trellis a few, harvest others over and over, and suddenly a tiny space can feed you all season. What’s the most productive thing you’ve ever grown? 👇

If you’ve ever stood in the garden center wondering “How many plants do I actually need?” You’re not alone! A lot of people plant whatever looks good in the moment and then end up with 14 zucchini, two tomatoes, and still buying salsa at the grocery store. But I’ll tell ya… a productive garden isn’t about planting more. It’s about planting the right amount. Did you know? 🌱 2–3 zucchini plants can feed a family all summer 🌱 4–6 tomato plants can give you 50lbs of tomatoes! 🌱 8–10 bean plants can produce POUNDS of food over the season 🌱 1 well-planned herb bed can replace all those gross clamshell plastic herbs for a long time! When you know the expected yield of the plants you eat regularly, suddenly your garden starts looking a lot more like a grocery store… and a lot less like a guessing game. This is EXACTLY why I built my printable garden planning binder! So you can stop guessing and start growing food that actually feeds your family. Stop asking “Can I grow food?” and start asking “How much should I plant?” 🌱 #vegetablegardenplanning #howmuchtoplant #growyourownfood

Planting schedule got you confused? 👇 I used to plant my favorite veggies only to see them struggle and never really produce. It felt like I was constantly battling bad timing and wasted seeds, never getting the bountiful harvest I dreamed of. Everything changed when I found 'The Vegetable Gardening Book' by Joe Lamp'l. It became my absolute roadmap, taking me from clueless gardener to confident cultivator, with a clear 'seed to harvest' plan for every vegetable, even with zero experience! 📲 Tap the link in bio @theveggie.gardener to access your complete guide today. #organicgardening #gardening #organic #growyourown #growyourownfood #garden #homegrown #vegetablegarden #organicfarming

Summer crops are coming out and the garden is turning over 🌱 One minute you’re harvesting cucumbers… next minute you’re ripping the plants out to make room for the next season. It always feels brutal pulling healthy plants, but space in the garden is precious. Autumn planting is about to begin and I’m getting in early. What are you planting next season? 👇 Save this if you’re about to reset your garden beds. #gardening #vegetablegarden #growyourownfood #organicgardening #homegrownfood

I made a mistake last year… I didn’t plant ENOUGH of these 🌱 So this spring, We’re planting double! All of these seeds are from @westcoastseeds check my highlight for links 🌱🤍✨ 🌿 Cucumber - Cucamelon I planted these too late in the season. I harvested a couple at the end of the year, but this time I’m going to be proactive and start them indoors first! 🌿 Peas - Alderman Normally I’m not a huge pea fan, but last year I wanted more spring/early summer crops so I planted a few around a teepee. After tasting my first garden pea, I immediately wished I had planted more. Definitely a vegetable that tastes 10x better fresh from the garden. 🌿 Squash - vegetable spaghetti I tucked these into the back of my garden last year and harvested a few squash from three plants. This year I’m going to plant them more strategically so they can really thrive. 🌿 Pole Beans - Purple peacock My first year growing purple beans and I’m hooked! They freeze really well, so I’m hoping to grow enough to last us through the winter. 🌿 Cucumber - Mercury I planted cucumbers as an afterthought last year. I sowed a couple seeds in a pot with marigolds and geraniums on the inside of my grape trellis. I got a few cucumbers, but this year I want to make pickles — so I’m dedicating a whole arch just to cucumbers! 🌿 Arugula - Astro Arugula is so underrated! It’s amazing in salads, can be added to pasta, grows quickly, and is cold-tolerant — which means fresh greens in early spring. What are you planting more of this growing season? 🌱✨ #growyourownfood #startingseeds #gardeningcanada #gardeningforbeginners #gardeningcommunity

Having a green thumb is a myth. No one is born knowing when to transplant, how much to water, or why their tomatoes just gave up overnight. You start. You overwater. You underwater. You plant too early. You forget to harden off. You lose a whole tray of seedlings and question everything. You suck. And then you learn. You learn your soil. You learn your climate. You learn patience. You learn that failure in the garden isn’t failure — it’s feedback. And then one day… something thrives. Then another thing. Then you realize it was never about having a “green thumb.” It was about showing up. You grow. 🌱 #GardenGram #PlantLife #Homestead #RealFood #BeginnerGardeners

They can’t all be winners, right? With it being our first season, we knew going in there would be plenty of mistakes along the way. But after taking a step back, we’ve got a much better handle on these and are eager to make improvements this year!! Sugar Snap Peas 🫛🫛 - I was told multiple times that peas were a great starter crop because you can’t screw them up! Well, we put that to the test😂😂 We had to pull the few pods we had before the entire plant died from the ground up due to overwatering. Beets 🫜🫜 - we were so excited to get some of these delicious root veggies that are a favorite of my wife and I…so excited in fact that I never paid attention to thinning the sprouts after germination and never allowed any of them space to properly grow! We did harvest and enjoy some leaves from these guys though so not a complete loss. Carrots 🥕 🥕 - see ⬆️ ⬆️ definitely didn’t thin these guys enough and then got impatient. Fun fact: only successful carrot we got was an accidental seed coming to fruition right outside one of our beds…it was tasty though!! Dill and Cilantro 🌿 🌿- just your basic case of neglect. Didn’t know how or when to trim them and then just didn’t…they were great pest detractors though and certainly served their purpose! Cantaloupe 🍈- we started with 4 healthy plants…and then they grew. And grew. And grew some more. Why wouldn’t I trim them???? I don’t know either. We got one nice melon before some sort of disease infected one plant and then all of them because they were so tangled together. Cattle panel trellises are going to be a big help in this department this season! Watermelon 🍉 - actually, we had some pretty good yields on our watermelons once we grew them in their own containers. The one pictured was just a perfect example of impatience and overconfidence😂😂 Here’s to hoping these were just a one time issue! But if not, we’re going to have fun failing again. #fyp #backyardgarden #oopsies #diy #urbangardening

Like anything in life, there’s a pro and con list for growing food year-round. Here’s mine: Pro’s: ➤ Always harvesting something fresh ➤ No more burnout in July because you planted smarter ➤ Garden feels planned not chaotic ➤ You actually use your space all year long ➤ You feel like a boss walking out to your tunnel in February Con’s: ✘ You might get so much basil you start making pesto for your neighbors ✘ Your friends may call you “The Tomato Queen” ✘ You could accidentally become that person who brings homegrown salad to every gathering (…tragic, right?) All jokes aside… ✨ Comment SEEDS for my Year-Round Seed Starting Guide — it’s a complete planting roadmap based on your zone, so you always know what to grow and when.
