These were the words of Thai national MMA team athlete @amp_kanjutha 🇹🇭 after her opponent Xiaoni Liu 🇨🇳 refused to fight her in the finals of the 3rd Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA) championships yesterday in Luzhou, expressing harmful assumptions about her body.
The Thailand Association of Mixed Martial Arts @tamma.thailand released an official statement condemning the unfounded questioning of Amp's body and her eligibility to compete.
"TAMMA hereby affirms clearly and unequivocally that Ms. Amp Kanjutha Phattraboonsorn is a female athlete by birth, duly registered, certified, and continuously competing in the women’s division in full compliance with all competition regulations, including multiple international events prior to this championship."
"TAMMA stands firmly with our athlete and reaffirms our unwavering commitment to fairness, integrity, and the honor of competition".
Amp is a champion in multiple combat sports who has been fighting since the age of 12. In what should have been a triumphant moment in her career, the impact showed in her expression on the podium.
This incident is indicative of the rise of transphobia and harmful narratives about women's bodies, and the dangers they pose for all women. No athlete should ever be faced with threats to their wellbeing, dignity or career for the way they present.

FIIt’s a different dynamic for us females training in a male dominated sport. Sometimes it can bring you back to memories of being picked last in school for teams or group projects 😂
That being said I am surrounded by many wonderful men at the gym who will gladly partner with me! Just like how women love to partner with each other, so do the men, there just aren’t near as many of us!
