You know what they say: The days are long, but the years are short.
Somehow I have an eleven year old and an eleven month old — and it feels just like yesterday we took my oldest, Rhett (11), to his very first haircut.
We walked into the barbershop together, my husband and I, so excited. The kindest woman was there. And before we even knew what was happening… she reached for the clippers with a Guard 1 and started buzzing off his beautiful baby hair.
Part of me wanted to cry. THE BABY HAIR. Gone. But then — as the hair fell — his little face started to shine. My husband and I looked at each other. We loved it.
And, that’s motherhood... and life, now, isn’t it?
Sometimes we build this picture in our heads of what motherhood is supposed to look like. The first haircut. The first tooth. The first day of school. And usually? It doesn’t go exactly as planned. But if you stay flexible… sometimes it turns out even better than you imagined.
And now? I get to cut each of my boys’ hair. At every stage. From my very first nervous attempt to today — cutting Cal’s hair for the very first time.
Imperfectly perfect. And I wouldn’t trade a single moment. 🤍
