SHWalmart is NOT pet friendly, and you cannot take your pets inside. This isn’t just preference—it’s corporate policy. Walmart’s official statement says:

“Walmart does not allow pets in our stores. Service animals are welcome in accordance with the ADA.”

On top of that, signs are posted at store entrances reminding customers of this policy. The FDA also prohibits live animals in food establishments, which includes grocery sections of Walmart, due to health and safety risks.

Bringing pets into non-pet friendly stores doesn’t just break policy—it puts service dog handlers and the public at risk. Please respect the rules, respect service dog teams, and keep pets at home.

FOHow disabled people with legit service dogs enter @target knowing we’ll likely encounter… ignorant people, lots of pets & fake service dogs! (This goes for Walmart & Starbucks too!) We really out here just trying to have our basic access right to run an errand safely & in peace.

Targets corporate policy is that they are not pet friendly! They only allow service dogs for disabled people.
•
Under the ADA, service dogs are only dogs that have been trained to perform at least one task that directly assists or mitigates their handlers disability. EMOTIONAL SUPPORT is not a task that qualifies a dog to be considered service. ESAs & therapy dogs are not service dogs and have different access rights. Service dogs also MUST be fully potty trained, under control at all times & are not allowed in carts! (This is federal law.) If the dog is out of control, has an accident in the store or in a cart, legally they may & should be asked to leave for the safety and wellness of all. Businesses are always allowed to ask a person with a service dog two questions to ensure legal access. 1) is the dog a service dog for a disability you have. 2) what task(s) is the dog trained to perform. If the person doesn’t answer accordingly, they may be denied access legally.

Pets in places negatively impacts legit service dog teams. It directly threatens the accessibility of the store for disabled individuals. Service dogs are more likely to be attacked or distracted with pets around. Even well behaved pets encourages others around to bring their pets, the more pets that come, the more vulnerable disabled people with service dogs are. Bringing your pet really does violate disability rights. Please be a disability ally & responsible pet owner by respecting all pet polices.
