My last session at AAFY 3.0, we officially close up shop Friday at 10:30 for patients and clients. Version 4.0 will be up and running 9:30 AM Monday. I might be slinging less weights then 2020 when this version opened, but I’m happy to think back on all the folks who have walked out these doors in less pain, stronger, and excited to tackle their most active life. Thank you to all the folks who have made growth possible and stay tuned for what’s next for AAFY #sportsphysicaltherapist #aafy

Coach: There are no extra points for picking up your opponent and slamming them Me: say less coach What I lack in skills, experience, and any knowledge of jiu jitsu, I make up for with astounding punctuality and not being embarrassed to do weird stuff on the mat. I’m excited to compete again for multiple reasons. Post surgery return to comp is always a big milestone. I like that it makes me so nervous I want to puke. And from a work standpoint I’m excited to see how this training block helps or hinders my performance. #aafy #sportsphysicaltherapist #longmont

The only reason to do anything is to get a leg up on your friends. @coach_mdavis I could beat by just laying on him and his petite frame. @coach_michael_bann has a pretty severe elbow injury so I could probably last a few minutes. But in all reality it was awesome to do something I haven’t done in a long time, and especially with no guarantee I wasn’t just going to get tossed off the mat. The butterflies were second to none but the best part is that Charlotte is excited to talk about arm bars and takedowns. Worth every ache and pain I’m sure I’ll have for the next week #aafy

Seek high tension don’t be married to the implement. Posting this mainly to annoy @coach_mdavis. But we had 3 training sessions between football and the start of basketball. We touched on high rep plyos and sprints for tissue prep. Lifting we wanted a couple good touches so we stayed familiar, keep it heavy keep it simple, angering the sweater troll is a bonus #aafy

Sports specific and neuromuscular coordination. — usually the acute post op period is a bit challenging to tackle these buckets . We have restrictions on range, load, pain and a myriad of other issues. However one of the biggest losses post op is just how the brain understands and integrates the operated tissue. So we’re trying some low amplitude catches for coordination, co contraction and it’s more fun than just wall slides. Took me about 17 takes to edit out all the drops. #aafy #sportsphysicaltherapyclinic #shouldersurgery

I hope you always feel confident to be who you want to be and not feel like you have to fit in any certain box. She’s at least a little like her mom, surprisingly able to complete a tournament without any will-esque outbursts #aafy

I’ve been teaching youth S+C right around ten years now. At the end of 98% of my classes we close with “wills thought for the day” I’ll present a quote and ask what it means to them. Sometimes it’s awesome discussions sometimes it’s crickets. But it always gives me a minute to slow down, convey that we’re here for more then the iron, and often times gives me a chance to let them know I care about them not just their performance. I’ll admit that it’s tempting to use the time for lifting,sprints whatever. Im not always sure it is hitting home. Today I got a reminder it’s still important. I’ve always said that if me and my homies had somewhere to be, with someone who cared we probably would have gotten in a lot less shenanigans. Strength coaching is often just another avenue to provide a good place with good role models for folks. Pay attention to your interactions, make sure they know they’re more then just a jersey number #aafy

Got the chance to chat on recovery and PT the panthera grappling camp today. I put some thought into what I really wanted to drive home today. I didn’t hand out business cards and fear monger about the Need for sports medicine in such a violent (awesome) sport. I hope tbey took home the message that their bodies are tremendous healing machines. Given proper rest, nutrition and training there isn’t much they can’t overcome. I appreciate the invitation to any wrestling room and can’t wait to see these studs in action #aafy #longmont #sportsphysiotherapy

I literally just want to see how many years of my life I can do this under 30:00 B: DL single 465 - sissy effort scared of hammy C: jog a mile because Joel Jamison said it will make me immortal 7:18 D: 2 rep FS from the floor 18 pounds - told her I still am ahead by 332 pounds so keep training. Fitness is funny - I have a lot of clients (myself included) where fitness fills the role of fun and competition. Kinda replacing that pick up basketball game. Just playing “pick up” fitness every day is probably not only a risky endeavor injury wise but also a recipe for confusing up and down success. But the flip side of 1000% regimented linear fitness has worked with a super duper small number of my clients. For me personally here’s to another year of some rigidity and some stupid decisions that result in an achy shoulder in the AM #aafy
