Back acne is a common problem for a lot of people. It can be quite hard to treat and if you find using creams doesn’t work for you then see your GP/derm who can prescribe you tablets! I’m going to break it down and keep it simple. What you can do to help things along: - Wash your bedsheets/ pillows atleast twice weekly 🛌 - Wash as soon as you can after working out 🏋️‍♀️ - Avoid tight fitting clothes. These can have an occlusive effect making acne worse Treatments: - Salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide wash can be used in the shower daily (you might find that a few times a week is more than enough and going slow is a good idea if you have sensitive skin) - Incorporate a topical retinoid (apply to dry skin) If you’re in the U.K. you can get adapelene, Epiduo etc from your GP. Again start a few times a week and build up as tolerated. Tip: if you’re prone to acne on your back continuing twice a week to your problem areas is a good idea as maintenance Note: no retinoids in pregnancy 🤰 If this isn’t working for you then see your doc and they can prescribe you other tablet treatments including: - Antibiotics - Contraceptive pill Severe cystic acne can affect the back and it’s unlikely to respond to topical treatments and often requires roccutane to clear it and reduce the risk of scarring. Remember roaccutane isn’t just for facial acne. Leave your questions below 👇🏽
