ELA woman adopted two dogs from separate shelters 40 miles apart without knowing anything about their past, and the moment the second dog walked through the door both animals broke down crying and ran to each other — touching noses and whimpering in a way that stopped her cold.
Calls to both shelters uncovered the truth: the two dogs had lived together for 6 years, been separated when their owner passed away, and had spent 9 months apart before a single person unknowingly brought them back together.
Shelter staff said the odds of it happening by chance were almost impossible. They spent their first week refusing to separate by even a step, and still sleep pressed against each other every night as if they know how close they came to never finding each other again.

Little update 01/03: Staff scared off an adopter today. So just a heads up, if you do go meet him, staff will try to discourage you from adopting him because of what his previous owners said “he’s unpredictable and aggressive”. This is NOT what his formal assessment states. They’re taking what the previous family said and running with it. There is no sense in giving these dogs formal assessments at the shelter if they’re just going to use whatever the owners said against the dog. Labeling him as aggressive will ruin any chance of him finding a home He’s not aggressive and he’s not mean. He’s a young scared dog. Please don’t let this discourage you from adopting him!♥️
My heart hurt reading his owner surrender form. After spending $1,500 on training, they still gave up on him…because the wife “couldn’t deal with him anymore” and because he’s “too unpredictable” He’s a year old. He’s a baby.
From what I saw today, Bradley is not a dog that causes chaos. He’s quiet. He’s calm. He’s mellow. He’s incredibly loving and sweet. When I walked by his kennel, it was filthy, so I took him out and another volunteer helped me clean it. We got him into the bathtub and cleaned his paws and tail and I think he felt so much better afterward.
Bradley is just another German Shepherd in a sea of German Shepherds here, which means getting him adopted may take a little extra effort. But he’s so worth it! He previously lived with kids and other dogs. During his dog assessment, he didn’t really care to play and he was kinda more of a hall monitor. He wasn’t into the hyper, energetic dogs. He preferred staying close to the handlers, quietly asking for attention and love.
Bradley is such a sweet boy. I really hope someone sees this and gives him the chance he deserves.
He’s available for adoption at Carson Animal Shelter in Gardena, California.

YONot everyone’s work schedule can accommodate having a dog and we totally get that. But please know that having a day job does not prevent you from being a good dog parent. Don’t let your day job get in the way of finding your best friend!
Our shelter dogs get a lot of love from our volunteers and staff but that still means they spend on average 23 hours a day in their shelter kennel (unless a lucky pup scores the rare day trip). Even if you work a 9-5 with a commute, that still means your dog would spend its day in a cozy, quiet home waiting for their favorite person in the whole wide world to walk through the doors every evening. They wouldn’t have to deal with the constant noise, smells, and overall stress of a shelter environment.
The precious few hours spent together after a work day or in the early morning before the day begins is so much more than anything these dogs would be able to get while in our shelter 🥹
Please consider adopting a shelter pup. They’re more than happy to hold down the fort while you bring home the bacon. And in return, they’ll give you loyal companionship and unconditional love.
