Alba’s biological mother gave her up shortly after birth, and many prospective adoptive parents declined because of her condition. Luca, who had spent years volunteering with people with disabilities, had always wanted to be a father, and when Italian adoption laws changed in 2017 to allow single people to adopt, he was finally able to apply. When the court called him about Alba, he immediately said yes and rushed to meet her at the hospital. He felt an instant bond and knew she was meant to be his daughter. Sometimes our kids drive us right up the wall crikey, our two have absolutely nailed it in this house and yeah, I might call them little a-holes in those moments… but it doesn’t change how much we bloody love them. As someone who was adopted at a pretty young age but old enough to have memories, I feel like I can confidently say this statement. (I know that a lot of people will think this is sad or insensitive to say out loud.) But truly to me, my adoptive parents are my real parents. They are the family God chose to put my little brother and I in. That doesn’t mean that I don’t care about my birth parents. I just view them more as the ones who helped get us on this earth. Family is more than blood and there’s no ill intent in me by saying that. Here’s what I do wonder: I wonder who they were and if they are still alive today. I wonder if they regret giving up my brother and I. I wonder if they think of us. But when someone asks me, “who are your parents?” — it’s the white ones that naturally come to mind 😉 #adoption #story #family #birthparents #roots

Troy koehler's adoptive father told deputies that the little boy had somehow disappeared from their home overnight. What began as a search for a missing child quickly turned into something far more tragic. As deputies searched the house on Rosegate Drive, they made a horrifying discovery inside the garage. Troy was found unresponsive inside a washing machine. The seven-year-old was fully clothed. Despite efforts from first responders, it was too late. As investigators began piecing together what happened inside the home, disturbing details started to emerge. The autopsy later revealed that Troy had suffered both recent and older injuries. Medical examiners determined his death involved blunt force trauma and asphyxiation, and his death was ruled a homicide. Investigators also reportedly found blood evidence on the washing machine and in other areas of the home. As the investigation continued, authorities uncovered text messages exchanged between Troy’s adoptive parents in the days leading up to his death. According to court records, the messages showed growing anger directed toward the young boy. In one exchange, Troy’s father allegedly complained about the child eating snacks like donut sticks and made a chilling remark suggesting he might end up killing him. In another message cited by investigators, Troy’s mother allegedly threatened to put the boy in an oven to scare him into confessing about eating sweets. Months later, the couple was arrested. Jemaine Thomas was charged with capital murder, while Tiffany Thomas faced charges of injury to a child by omission. In court, those who knew Troy remembered a completely different picture of the little boy behind the headlines. His teacher described him as kind, curious, and full of life — a child who loved reading and lifting up his classmates. In the end, Jemaine Thomas pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 50 years in prison. Tiffany Thomas was later sentenced to 10 years for her role in failing to protect the child. Troy Koehler was only seven years old. And his story is one that the world should never forget.
