MOComment ‘SOIL’ and I’ll send you a link to my very own Aroid mix.
I took a Monstera cutting that had already rooted in water and I moved it to soil.
It began like this:
✂️ I started by teasing the roots and removing any roots that had signs of rotting. Then I sprayed the roots down with hydrogen peroxode.
🪨 Then I created a soil mix that would provide proper aeration, but still have some water holding capacity during this initial crucial stage of transplanting.
🪴Continued to repot the monstera in a pot with the stake and secured the plant to the stake.
Then after some time, as a trial, I moved it back to water by removing all the existing soil, cleaning the roots as much as I could and putting it back in a vase with water.
And now, I Love it!
During this time in the water I’ve cared for her by only changing the water when it got murky and topping it off with water and a low dose of 9-3-6 fertilizer to keep her growing.
She’s growing strong. Now I need to start thinking about what container she’ll go in next. This seems like it’s getting too small and she wants to topple over.

1️⃣ The right potting mix
(There are lots that work. These are just a couple I use. If you don’t want to DIY, Molly’s Aroid Mix from @veryplants works great too) Find a link and discount code in my bio.
2️⃣ Enough light for big, compact growth
• 500–1,000+ foot candles = ideal
• 300 foot candles = minimum
• ~150-250 µmol if you use a PAR meter
3️⃣ Watering at the right time
Water when the soil is nearly or completely dry. Timing depends on your pot size and mix, so there’s no “one schedule fits all.” But you can find your own unique schedule.
Fertilizer doesn’t need to be complicated either. I mostly use @osmocotegarden indoor/outdoor slow release about twice a year, or @gt_growth_technology_au Foliage Focus for my specialty Monstera about every watering.

RUThis is how I make my aroid mix, I use the forest mix chunky from @plantsatemymoney as a base and then add in my own little ingredients like perlite and pumice/lava rock to help my plants avoid root rot at the plot. When potting a plant, it depends on where they're going to live in the garden, some areas need a airier mix, while the sheltered areas need a mix with more moisture retention. The longest I've gone without watering my plants and just letting nature be was 10 days, so far so good. #gardening #plantsatemymoney #plantdaddy #plantsofinstagram #aroidmix

O Philodendron melanochrysum já é deslumbrante, mas o Philodendron melanochrysum 'Variegata' é deslumbrante ao extremo! Tons alaranjados, dourados, verde claros e creme fazem de suas folhas obras de arte únicas, porque nenhuma é igual à outra!

A espécie original é nativa da Colômbia e o epíteto específico "melanochrysum" significa dourado (crysum) e escuro (melano). Isso porque as folhas possuem um aveludado com tons dourados e pretos, especialmente nas folhas jovens.

Plantas variegadas são muito apreciadas em coleções, especialmente essas com variegação por quimerismo, na qual parte do tecido vegetal é normal e parte é mutante. Isso gera essas manchas inigualáveis!

BEWhen I first discovered moss poles, I went all in and put every aroid on them 🤣 I loved it at first, everything was climbing beautifully and the leaves were getting bigger. But as the plants matured, they started getting top heavy. The poles bent, some nearly toppled, and I eventually had to support the moss pole itself 😅
Watering sounded easy, but in reality you have to properly soak the moss or the water just runs off, and over time it started to feel like more work than I expected.
That’s when I realized, in nature, these plants don’t grow on moss. They climb whatever they can grip onto: tree trunks, bark, walls, even rocks.
So I tried something different. I used old wooden planks, floorboards, old balusters from my deck, nothing fancy.
my golden pothos is thriving. It’s climbing, gripping naturally, and sizing up with every new leaf, no bending, no extra support, and pretty much zero maintenance.
My take?
Moss poles definitely work, but they’re not the only way to get big, beautiful leaves.

KEThis #plant, my #Philodendron #gigas, has been a labor of #love, and a true testament of #patience, #understanding, and hard #work. 🪴
I’ve had this tropical #climbing plant for about 4.5 years. When I first got her, she nearly died due to a random #fungal infection she had when I bought her.
I had to chop and #propagate this Philo about a dozen times until her health returned.
It’s been about a year since I last had to do that — and now she’s thriving! 🌱🤩🪴
In this clip, I’m adding an extra layer of #coco #coir to her #moss #pole.
Since Gigas are #climbers in #nature (they #climb up the sides of trees), they need #poles in household conditions to help #support their #growth and pop out larger #leaves. 🍃
But for #aesthetic reasons, I like to add an extra layer of moss to cover up their #vines (I’m not a fan of how they look exposed).
Either way, she’s a #stunning #aroid! 😍 I’m so glad I never gave up on her. ❤️
