But one keeps improving… and the other stays stuck. Why? Athlete A is just going through the motions. Showing up because they have to. Checking the box.
 Athlete B shows UP. Every rep has purpose. Every drill has focus. Every session has effort behind it. That’s the difference between average and elite. If you want to become an elite athlete, don’t just be present; be intentional. Work hard. Compete. 1️⃣ Ankling Ankle stiffness focus, develops pre-tensioning around the ankle before ground contact 2️⃣ Dribbles Rhythmic, cyclical actions of top speed at low velocities 3️⃣ Fast Leg B Drills the swing cycle, encouraging negative foot speed during the late swing phase. Extension at the knee should be a result of the action of the hip, not a conscious ‘kick out’ 4️⃣ Fast Leg A Developing hip flexion speed and vertical impulse 5️⃣ Flexed Leg scissors Drills horizontal force production and limb exchange or ‘switching’, specifically for late acceleration or in the case of a stumble or missed step 6️⃣ Straight Leg scissors Drills horizontal force production and limb exchange or ‘switching’ while developing elasticity in the posterior chain. Traditional sprint drills have taken some flack online recently. While I agree there is a time and place for these drills and there can be too much emphasis on ‘perfect’ form, the key here is in the name. They’re just ‘drills’. The right dosage and emphasis on traditional drills and more specific drills and/or competitive exercise should ensure positive rather than negative transfer to mechanics IMO. Drills are another supportive element to speed training, they just sit on the specific end of the continuum. I like to view ‘traditional’ drills much like specific development exercises because in reality they don’t match sprint specific positions exactly - they exaggerate them! This allows learning while developing some special strength qualities. #trackandfield #athletics #speeddevelopment #sprintworkout
