It’s hard to believe that over 10 years ago, when Keegan regressed and lost his words, his eye contact everything, I became a mom on a mission. I needed to understand. The autism brain. The autism body. What I missed. What I didn’t know. What could help him. I never could have imagined that going back to school and relearning the body on a molecular level mitochondria, cells, energy production in the brain would not only change our lives, but someday allow me to help other families too. Years ago, I was sitting there relearning how cells work. Now Keegan is learning it himself. This week, we spent time talking about brain cells, plant cells, and animal cells concepts he’s now studying in school. And he scored a 106 on his test. I am beyond proud of how hard he’s worked and how far he’s come. Proof that progress doesn’t always look the way we expect but it is possible. If you’re looking for personalized support including lab selection, interpretation, and an individualized plan for your child you can book a 1:1 consult with me through the link in my bio. 💬 Here’s what I begin to notice in Hakeem: 🧠 Better movement and coordination: My son gained more control over his body. Movements become smoother and more confident, which makes everyday activities easier and less frustrating. He started to look less clumsy and more in control of his own body. 🧠 Stronger fine motor skills: Hands and fingers start working together more efficiently. This shows up in things like neater handwriting, better drawing, and more confidence with small, precise tasks. 🧠 Less sensory overload: Sounds, textures, and daily sensory input become more manageable. This means fewer meltdowns and less irritability throughout the day. 🧠 More flexibility with food choices: When sensory sensitivity decreases, many children become more open to trying new foods and expanding their diet. This also means that eating habits can change, since the food texture may be tolerated better. It was a game-changer for my son. Our diet has changed drastically for the better. 🧠 More emotional balance: As primitive reflexes integrate, anxiety and emotional ups and downs often soften. My son tends to feel calmer, more grounded, and more secure in himself. 🧠 Improved focus and learning: It becomes easier for Hakeem to pay attention, stay on task, listen, and absorb information. Learning feels less overwhelming and more natural as it should. 🧠 Clearer speech and communication: Speech often flows more smoothly and feels like coming through more. My boy started to express himself better, speak more clearly, and understand information more easily. 🪩 By working with primitive reflexes, you’re not “fixing” your child - you’re supporting their nervous system so it can grow and develop the way it was designed to. This is where a strong foundation begins. Everything our kids do - moving their bodies, learning, communicating, even handling emotions - starts with skills that should naturally develop in the early years. When those early reflexes integrate properly, the nervous system can finally do its job the way it’s meant to. #autism #autismroadmap #reflexintegration #autismsupport #primitivereflexintegration

AUTISM SAFETY: IT ONLY TAKES A SECOND. Sticking paper up her nose. It might seem small, but safety risks aren’t always obvious. Wandering, choking, running away—these things happen fast. We use BIG PROBLEM vs. LITTLE PROBLEM to teach her how to process situations in the moment. This method builds flexible thinking and helps her recognize when danger is real. This time, it was just paper—but not every moment ends with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Safety isn’t something we can afford to take lightly. What are you reinforcing daily for safety? Many parents ask us about the research and evidence behind Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) / Photobiomodulation in supporting children with developmental challenges. The good news is that there has been a growing number of research studies exploring how photobiomodulation can support brain function, neuroplasticity, inflammation regulation, and sensory-motor integration. At our clinic, we always believe in combining science, evidence, and clinical expertise when introducing any innovative therapy approach for children. If you are curious to learn more about the research and evidence behind Low Level Laser Therapy, we are happy to share the published studies with you. Many parents notice their child humming quietly, flapping their hands near their eyes, rocking back and forth, or repeating certain sounds or movements. These behaviours are known as stimming (short for self-stimulatory behaviour). Stimming is a natural way for children — particularly those with Autism or sensory processing differences — to help their bodies and brains feel calm, organised, and regulated. It can help children manage big emotions, overwhelming environments, or sensory input. Common forms of stimming include: • Auditory stimming: humming, repeating words or phrases, making rhythmic sounds • Visual stimming: staring at lights, spinning objects, or moving hands near the eyes • Vestibular stimming: rocking, jumping, or spinning to seek movement • Olfactory/Gustatory stimming: sniffing, licking, or chewing objects Stimming is often misunderstood, but it can play an important role in sensory and emotional regulation. In therapy, the goal is not to simply stop stimming. Instead, we work to understand the purpose behind the behaviour and support children in developing safe, functional ways to regulate themselves and communicate their needs. At Omonx Speech Therapy, we support children through sensory regulation, communication development, and social interaction, helping them feel safe, understood, and confident in their world. This might seem like just a simple balance test but... it’s actually a powerful way to check for retained primitive reflexes that could be impacting focus, coordination, and emotional regulation. What’s happening when we do this? 🧠 We’re testing for the Tonic Labyrinthine Reflex (TLR) & Vestibular Function. The TLR is a primitive reflex that should disappear by early childhood. If it’s still active, it can cause: ❌ Poor balance & coordination ❌ Difficulty with focus, attention, and sitting still (ADHD symptoms!) ❌ Motion sickness or dizziness ❌ Struggles with reading & learning ❌ Clumsiness or trouble with sports 💡 Why does this test work? Closing the eyes removes visual input, so the body has to rely on the vestibular system (balance center in the brain). Putting the feet together reduces stability, making it easier to see if the body wobbles or falls. Dropping the head forward challenges core strength and postural control. If a child falls over or can’t stay still, it could mean their TLR is still active, making things like focus, coordination, and emotional regulation much harder. 🌊 This reflex is directly linked to ADHD, autism, dyslexia, and sensory struggles. If a child struggles with balance when their eyes are closed, their brain may still be stuck in an early developmental stage—affecting their ability to sit still, focus, and learn effectively. 💡 Want to learn how to test & integrate reflexes at home with 100% NATURAL remedies? 🔥 Comment “GUIDE” to grab our Ultimate Primitive Reflex Guide, which gives you step-by-step exercises to help ADHD, autism, anxiety, dyslexia, sensory issues, and more—without expensive therapies or medications! #ADHDHelp #AutismSupport #SensoryProcessing #BrainTraining #PrimitiveReflexes

We’re late to this trend. But when it comes to accessibility, I guess so is the rest of the world. Both of my children are autistic. Every day, we have to navigate obstacles that most people never notice. Harsh lighting, loud noises. Eye contact, small talk, and unfenced playgrounds—where in a matter of seconds, I lost my eloping son. For many autistic people, the world isn’t just inconvenient. It’s unlivable. This isn’t a cry for pity; it’s a call for action. For awareness. For communities to acknowledge there isn’t just one kind of mind—and to start building systems of support around everyone. Accessibility isn’t just about ramps and elevators. Inclusion cannot just be the responsibility of the disabled. #disabilityinclusion #autismsupport #specialneedskids #neurodivergent
