It’s challenging, but it perfectly recreates the feeling of reaching into a back handspring and setting into a flip. When athletes can feel it, they can apply it.

LIA lot of you asked for something to practice at home...
If you have someone working on a back handspring- A back limber is the safest skill they can practice on their own in my opinion.
Bridge from standing (feet together) push until they can get their legs over. I try to stress the importance of straight legs, knees and pointed toes. Bad habits start here. So if they can get over with bent legs- the back handspring will be bent too- and no one wants to try to fix that!
Also- if their shoulders aren't over their hands that is usually a reason they can't push over. Work on bridges- rocking back and forth to stretch the shoulder. They need to hit that position to be successful 💪🏼

CHThis morning I posted about looking for a surf retreat. Someone suggested what looked like a really cool retreat. And then I read the description… WOMEN OVER 40 NEED NOT APPLY…
It bugged me all morning until I nailed my round off back handspring after 8 months of no practice and recovering from surgery. Should have gone right into that back tuck. Had the height for it. Will lock it down by next month. Also locked down? A surf retreat. Run by a kickass surfer babe. Mid 40’s. A mom of 3. An entrepreneur. A welcomer of all ages. A mirror. So off I go. Will report from an undisclosed location in a few weeks.
To that other surf camp, the one for girls… BIG MISTAKE. HUGE. (Seeing as everyone and their mother is asking me to share my findings)
And thank you S for guiding me back to ME on the floor today. See you next week. TUCK!
