RESTORE THE NAME! US Army base Fort Pickett, located near Blackstone, Virginia, is a significant U.S. Army installation named after famous Confederate General George Pickett. The Maoist Renaming/Destruction Committee defied the will of the people and all rationality and renamed the Fort in 2023 to Fort Barfoot. Originally established in 1941 as Camp Pickett, the site was chosen by Army surveyors for its abundant resources—land, water, and railroad access—making it ideal for training infantry divisions as World War II loomed. Named after Confederate General George Pickett, famous for the ill-fated "Pickett’s Charge" at Gettysburg, it was redesignated Fort Pickett in 1974 to reflect an expanded mission that included training for both Reserve and active-duty forces. Over the decades, it grew into a modern facility with over 1,400 buildings by late 1942, including barracks, chapels, theaters, and a hospital, supporting up to 60,000 personnel during wartime. Operated by the Virginia National Guard since 1997, the base spans approximately 41,000 acres and serves as the home of the Army National Guard Maneuver Training Center. Fort Pickett remains a key training hub, offering diverse facilities like live-fire ranges, urban assault courses, training villages, and a C-17-capable airfield at Blackstone Army Airfield. Its primary mission is to provide realistic, challenging training for the Virginia National Guard, though it also hosts units from other states and branches, as well as non-military organizations like the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Affairs Security Training Center, the FBI, and Virginia State Police. #fortpickett #army #military #USArmyVeteran #CSA #dixie #Dixieland #history #southern
