Whether you call this beef stew, beef tips, beef and gravy or whatever it’s gonna always hit. It could be served with mashed potatoes or rice complimented with any vegetable. It’s a classic meal that everyone should know how to make. Here’s my version!
**Follow the directions below not what you see on the video***
INGREDIENTS:
Beef stew meat (3 pounds)
Complete Seasoning (1/4 cup)
Black Pepper (2 tbs)
Onion powder (2 tbs)
Garlic powder (2 tbs)
Flour ((1/4 cup)
Butter (1 tablespoon)
Onions (1)
Bell pepper (1)
Mushrooms (8oz)
Onion soup pack (Liptons)
Cream of celery
Beef broth (2 cups)
Tonys Brown Gravy (Mix 1/4 c & 2 cups water)
Liquid smoke (1 tablespoon)
Browning liquid (1-2 tablespoons)
- Season beef with complete seasoning, pepper, onion, and garlic powder. Sprinkle flour, fully coating all sides.
- To a oiled pan, on medium heat, brown meat on all sides remove & set aside
- Add onions and bell peppers. Sauté for one minute, add butter sauté and scrape bottom of pot to release stuck on seasoning.
- Add mushrooms, beef broth, onion soup pack, cream of celery, gravy, browning, and liquid smoke. Stit until completely combined.
- This is the step where you season to taste!!!
- Once you bring to a slow boil, add in your meat, cover and cook on medium heat, stirring every 5 to 7 minutes.
-Cook until your meat is fork tender.
- If your gravy gets too thick add additional beef broth or water.

Growing up as a kid, beef tips and rice was definitely a classic fave in my Southern household. However, I’ve had many shares of this dish from many places and two problems I would always experience were lack of flavor and/or them thangs were TOUGH! It was almost like biting into rubber bullets in some instances.😩
Hunny, you have to give these little medallions of love some TLC and nothing less! They have to simmer low and slow!
So I’ve decided to share my recipe with you guys on how to achieve the most tender beef tips and how to develop MAXIMUM flavor without a gravy packet or Lipton. (Ain’t nothing wrong with a little Lipton now!)

ONSlow Cooker Smothered Beef Tips with Mushroom and Onion Gravy (Easy)
Ingredients
2 1/2 to 3 pounds stew beef (beef for stew, sirloin, tenderloin)
2 cans cream of mushroom soup
1 packet dry onion soup mix (1 ounce packet)
1 cup water
salt and pepper to taste
Optional
8 ounces mushrooms sliced (optional)
1/4 cup red wine (replace water with wine for total of 3/4 cup water, 1/4 cup wine)
Directions
Lightly spray the cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
Brown beef (optional). In a medium size bowl add canned mushroom soup, dry onion soup and water, mix well then pour mixture over beef tips, top with mushrooms (optional) and stir, coating evenly.
Cook on low for 5–6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours – adjust cooking times depending on how fast/slow your cooker cooks.
Serve beef tips and gravy over egg noodles, mashed potatoes or rice. Enjoy!
Tips – This recipe is super easy to adapt depending on your taste and time.
