This year marks 11 years since we introduced the Flow Hive to the world 🐝 What has meant the most has been seeing a global community of beekeepers grow — sharing knowledge, caring for their bees, and deepening their connection to the natural world. As we continue refining tools that make beekeeping more accessible and bee-centred, we’re grateful to be on this journey together. Link in bio to get started 🐝💛 #FlowHive #Beekeeping

Beekeepers and researchers use a precise, science based method to track dangerous hornets by attaching tiny identification tags or transmitters to individual insects and following them back to their nests.. This technique is most famously used in Japan and parts of Europe to locate nests of Asian giant hornets and yellowjackets, which pose a serious threat to honeybee colonies.. The process is simple but effective, a hornet is captured near a hive, briefly immobilized, and fitted with a lightweight tag, colored marker, or micro radio transmitter that does not interfere with its flight.. Once released, the hornet instinctively flies straight back to its nest.. Beekeepers and teams then track its path visually or via radio signal, allowing them to pinpoint the nest’s location, sometimes hidden deep in forests, underground, or inside structures.. Hornets are territorial and repeatedly return to the same nest to feed larvae, making them reliable guides.. By locating and removing nests early, beekeepers can prevent mass attacks that can wipe out an entire bee colony in minutes.. The practice is a striking example of how careful observation and minimal technology can be used to protect ecosystems, safeguard pollinators, and manage invasive species without widespread harm.. media: bbeabee #reels #viral #viralreels #viralvideos #foryou #fyp

Bees rarely starve in winter. They starve in early spring. This is the transition most new beekeepers don’t see coming. Colonies begin raising brood as daylight increases, even when forage is still scarce. That brood has to be kept at about 93°F. And heating brood takes enormous energy. Energy comes from honey stores. So a hive can look active… bring in pollen… even have a laying queen… and still be only weeks from starvation. That’s exactly what we found here. Two frames of honey left. Brood expanding. Population small coming out of winter. Without intervention, this colony would likely collapse before real nectar flow ever began. This is why spring inspections matter. And why food stores come before everything else — even the queen. Beekeeping isn’t just opening boxes. It’s reading survival signals. If you’re learning to keep bees, this is one of the most important skills you can develop. 👉 Follow for real beekeeping education from working beekeepers 🐝 Comment “honeybee” and we’ll send you our beginner beekeeping guide #beekeeping #backyardbeekeeping #backyardbeekeeper #beekeepers #honeybees

How Beekeepers Tag the Queen Bee for Easy Identification 🐝👑 Inside a busy hive with tens of thousands of bees, spotting the queen can be incredibly difficult. That’s why beekeepers often tag the queen with a small colored dot or numbered marker on her thorax. The process is done very carefully to avoid harming the most important bee in the colony. First, the beekeeper gently locates the queen and places her in a small holding tool that keeps her still while protecting her wings and legs. Then a tiny drop of special paint or a lightweight plastic tag is applied to the top of her thorax. The color usually follows an international system that indicates the year the queen was born, helping beekeepers track her age and productivity. Once released back into the hive, the queen continues laying eggs normally while the bright tag makes her easy to identify during inspections. This helps monitor colony health, breeding cycles, and hive stability. In a hive of thousands, one tiny mark helps keep the entire kingdom organized.

When beekeepers need to find a hornet nest, they sometimes use a simple but clever tracking method. They catch a hornet alive and gently attach a very light thread or fine filament to its body. Once released, the hornet instinctively flies straight back to its nest. By watching the direction it travels-and sometimes following it step by step-the beekeeper can trace the flight path and locate the nest. This works because hornets have strong navigation skills and usually return directly to their colony after feeding. The thread must be extremely light so it doesn't affect the hornet's flight or exhaust it. It's an old-school, low-tech technique, but surprisingly effective-especially in forests or rural areas where nests are hard to spot from the ground.
