Contrary to popular belief, you need to do more than stretch to get flexiblility that you can control in movement. You need to train passive stretching, dynamic exercises, & active strengthening of the range of motion!
Extentions & tilts require a LOT of hip flexor strength, so give these mobility & strengthening exercises a try & let me know how they go! ^.^

SUWe’ve all seen videos of dancers doing crazy things to break in their shoes- crunching the box, cutting out parts of the shank, and slamming the shoes against concrete. But is all of that actually necessary?🤔
Professional dancers usually have a routine they have perfected over many years to quickly get their shoes exactly how they like, and that’s great! But if you are new to pointe, trying some of these methods could cause your shoes to die prematurely or even potentially cause injury.
At Suffolk, we think the best way to break in your shoes, especially for dancers new to pointe, is to simply dance in them! And then if you want to discuss customizations once you’ve gained more experience en pointe, we always recommend speaking with your dance teacher and a pointe shoe fitter first.👩🏫🩰

Tendu is a ballet term that means “to stretch.”⠀
⠀
When you go to the front or “devant”,⠀
you want to lead with the heel on the way out, keeping contact with your full foot as long as possible, then just the ball of the foot, then just the toes. The side of your foot shouldn’t make contact with the ground.⠀
⠀
To the side or “a la secondé”, lead with toes on the way out and heel on the way in.⠀
⠀
To the back or “derrière”, lead with the toes on the way out and heel on the way in.⠀
⠀
You should feel resistance in your foot and thighs throughout. ⠀
