I’m super excited about the episode of the Huberman Lab podcast out today with my colleague Dr Tony Wyss-Coray, who has spent his career finding factors present in youthful blood, as well as after exercise and other beneficial activities, including social interaction (!) that can be harnessed to rejuvenate the brain and body. Keep in mind *no one is saying to replace important behaviors! Quite the contrary. But just as GLPs are made naturally, but have now been harnessed as important anti-obesity treatments you could imagine using molecular approaches to make exercise even more effective, especially in older age. Of course, the combination of peptides and behaviors is where the real changes in favor of health occur. Also keep in mind the discussion around youthful blood is not what you imagine: for instance, maybe we should all be banking our own blood now for when we get older, no matter what your age is currently. After all the clinical trial showed that blood transfusion can help with dementia. There are also data showing that after an injury your blood has factors that can damage other tissues and it’s not just due to inflammation. That might be a good time to offset with healthier blood. What are Anti-Nutrients? This is something I’ve been getting more into lately - very simple, it just means that there’s evidence of certain foods containing anti-nutrients, which basically means they block the absorption nutrients. Examples include coffee limiting the absorption of magnesium and beans limiting the absorption of zinc. Does that mean you should never have them. No, thats up to you. I drink plenty of coffee, but I also know that my magnesium is just fine. If I had a magnesium deficit I’d probably either supplement or cut my coffee consumption. Bottom line, studies like this are great for furthering the science of nutrition and what’s actually optimal. But optimal is a direction, not a destination. Unless you’re trying to be Bryan Johnson.
