🐴 "Bucking straps are actually an incredibly effective training aid for teaching what I call a rein-less half-halt. When you pull up on the strap, it brings you down into the saddle, giving you a more formidable, stronger seat. That deepened seat becomes a clear cue to your horse that you want him to engage his hindquarters, lift his shoulders and collect his gait."🐴⁣ ~ Laine Ashker, on how to use a bucking strap to perform a rein-less half-halt⁣ ⁣ Can you collect your horse without using your reins? In this video, brought to you by @absorbine, five-star eventer and Grand Prix dressage rider @laineyea explains and demonstrates how to perform a rein-less half-halt using a bucking strap to improve your ability to collect your horse without relying on your reins.⁣ ⁣ Click on the link in our bio to watch the full video and to learn more about this useful training aid!

Which bit should you reach for if you find your hanging cheek isn’t quite enough? 🤔🐴 Many riders jump straight to a pelham because of the similarities in appearance but for a lot of horses that can be too big of a step. Instead, try our Eggbutt Loop Ring Bit. It offers extra control without over-bitting. ✔️ Adds extra poll pressure for improved control ✔️ Fixed eggbutt cheek keeps the bit still in the mouth ✔️ Ideal for horses that don’t like lots of movement in the mouth ✔️ Loop rings secure the cheekpiece and rein to create a subtle action

Bitting young horses is never straightforward, they’re often wobbly, unbalanced, and still figuring everything out. That’s why training and bit fitting goes hand in hand. With young horses, it’s not always about a dramatic visual transformation, it’s about what the rider feels. During every fitting, we prioritise communication, focusing just as much on feel as we do on what we see. Ted, a rising 5-year-old, has done a lot of growing recently and had started to struggle in the contact. After trying a range of options during his consultation, he chose our Expert Ti Eggbutt, offering Charlotte a more consistent feel and leaving Ted instantly more settled in his mouth. We’re wishing them the very best as Ted heads out to his first competitions this year… definitely one to watch. 🐎✨

How often do you long line? ✨ . Hands up, you caught me red handed. I’ve never actually long lined Henry before! 🙈 I can’t really say why, I guess I never had the confidence/equipment to do it before - obviously I lunge Henry but never long lined and what a good boy he was! 🥹 . Of course @mackeyireland make life easy for me by sending me the right equipment needed which I’ll list below - 🩵 Equi-Sential Breaking set including nylon lunge roller, nylon side reins 🩵 Equi-Sential Comfort Pad in green 🩵 Equi-Sential lunge line x2 🩵 Legend Athena Bridle . He was such a good boy through the whole process, especially being patient with me as I tried to remember if I was doing it right or not 😂 (at least I’m honest🤷🏼‍♀️). He did well on both reins & went over some poles, I was absolutely over the moon with him hence all the smiles! 😄 . Ya’ll asked, we delivered 😘 Three ways to improve the stability of your lower leg and balance in your seat: 1. Old but gold - you really have to ride without stirrups… And I mean properly, not just dropping them and hoping for the best 😅 Start in walk and focus on letting your leg hang long from your hip, with your weight dropping into your heel. Your thigh should feel soft and stretched, not gripping. As you build strength, add short periods of sitting trot, the goal is a quiet, stable leg, not just “staying on.” 2. Visualise you’re a part of the horse: I think of myself as growing ‘out of the horse’. We aren’t separate, we’re one. Instead of feeling like you’re sitting on top, think about letting your hips follow the swing, and allow your body to move with the horse rather than against it. This shift in mindset often helps to take put some of the ‘bounce’ and helps your position become more secure without force. 3. A big mistake when trying to sit quieter is to hold your legs and core tighter, squeezing tighter often leads you to sitting ‘on top’ of the horse, rather than around it. When you grip with your thigh, knee or lower leg, it lifts your seat out of the saddle and destabilises your lower leg. Instead, think about letting your knee stay soft and allowing your weight to drop down through the back of your leg, into your heel. Stability should come from weight and alignment, not tension, that’s what keeps you “around” the horse instead of perched on top. If you’ve got any more tips, I always love hearing them below! 🎥 - @caughtbranded.io #equestrian #dressage #trainingtips #equestrianlife

NEW video in my Liberty Riding Course 🍿😍 The beginning of riding dressage on the neckrope with a young horse 🐎 Watch the full video now at www.featherlightacademy.com 🔥 In the Liberty Riding Course, I show you my proces of riding dressage on the neckrope. First by showing everything with an experienced horse (Mellow), so you can clearly understand the feeling and the goal. After that, I continue with Ruby… Ruby had zero experience with liberty riding when we started filming, I had just started her under the saddle and had ridden her just a handful of times. On the Academy, you can follow her entire journey from the very beginning to riding dressage on the neckrope which I think is a very interesting journey to see 🐎 In the new Academy video, I’m working on helping Ruby find her balance for longer moments. First she has to find a bit of feel for the neckrope, so that I can help her find a better balance when she’s diving down of crawling up without using her back. When she finds a bit of feel, it’s my job to help her where she’s holding her body until she finds tiny moments of a better balance. Watch the full liberty series now ✨ Both in @hkmsportsequipment 👏🏼

This might ruffle a few feathers… but I actually sold my expensive roller 👀 At the time it felt like a very sensible purchase. Adjustable gullet plate, looked the part, ticked all the boxes. In reality? It just became one of those things that sat there… looking expensive… and never getting used. The gullet plate was the killer for me. Sounds great in theory, but when your horses are completely different shapes, having to swap it every time you switch horses just made it wildly impractical. And when something becomes a faff… you just stop using it. So I didn’t. I kept reaching for the cheap, cheerful fluffy one instead. Every. Single. Time. Chuck it on, crack on, job done. Which is probably the most honest product review I can give really 😅 Especially when you’re juggling multiple horses, work, life… you just need things to be easy and consistent. PS — before the headcollar comments roll in… Raine is ridden bitless anyway (sidepull), and this headcollar has the rope knots over the nose so it actually offers a pretty similar level of control to a snaffle. So no, I haven’t completely lost the plot… just keeping things simple and using what works 👍
