We get data from times and splits, from workouts, verbally from athletes, etc. I truly try to grow every year as a coach and one of my favorite things that we've implemented over the last year is biomechanic analysis. Being able to really break down an athletes biomechanics with visual feedback is inmeasurable. Being able to show the athlete and study it together has helped it click for them. Sometimes you can tell an athlete something, but it just doesn't click until they can see it. Seeing it makes all the difference. Thanks @alpha.peak for your help in breaking things down for our group.

Some evidence suggests that decelerations occur more frequently, and often at higher intensities, across many team sports. Clearance ≠ restored capacity. Athletes can pass time-based protocols and still show strength asymmetries, reduced RFD, altered biomechanics, and elevated re-injury risk — especially post-ACL and hamstring. Before you send them back into chaos, audit this: 1️⃣ Objective strength Residual quad deficits (>10%) post-ACL are linked to poorer outcomes and higher re-injury risk. Measure it. 2️⃣ Rate of force development Injury happens in <250ms. Slow strength without explosive expression isn’t enough. 3️⃣ Deceleration capacity Most non-contact injuries occur during braking — not max sprinting. Test eccentric control. 4️⃣ Rotational control Field athletes live in the transverse plane. Limited rotation = compensatory load elsewhere. 5️⃣ Reactive exposure Linear drills aren’t sport. Add unpredictability before full return. 6️⃣ Fatigue response Biomechanics change under fatigue. If mechanics fall apart late, they’re not ready. 7️⃣ Psychological readiness Fear of re-injury correlates with altered movement and higher re-injury rates. 8️⃣ Repeat sprint ability Can they produce high outputs repeatedly — not just once? 9️⃣ Load history Acute spikes in workload are strongly associated with increased injury risk. 🔟 Clear progression criteria If you can’t define what earns progression, you’re running hope-based rehab. Clearance is medical. Readiness is performance. Build it. Test it. Expose it. Prove it.

Coming off of our Accumulation block where we had a lot of volume, we are tapering that down and focusing on lifting heavier weight - still with great technique. Last month helped us build up the capacity to hit the gas this month in this Intensification block. Brandon’s focusing on a lot more unilateral (single arm / single leg) movements: athletes gotta move like athletes. As a majority of our athletes go into season, changing our training variables helps athletes feel fresh and powerful instead of bogged down and overloaded. All we do is… #ForTheAthlete
