Take care of your body! That has nothing to do with how much you weigh. It has everything to do with how worthy you are to live a wonderful life. Exercise has so many benefits that have nothing to do with weight loss. Stick around and I will keep reminding of all the beautiful reasons. When I changed my mindset about working out that’s when I started to love it! It’s not about losing weight. It’s not about getting skinny. It is not a punishment for what I ate yesterday. It’s 30 minutes a day that I give to myself, for me. To help me mentally, physically and even emotionally. It doesn’t matter what you do exercise can be what works for you. Going for a hike, riding a bike, going for a swim. Maybe all you can do today is dance in the kitchen. That’s ok…start dancing. Building muscle is essential for healthy aging — but you also want to be able to move well. I think people really underestimate the benefits of being able to get on and off the ground. A 2014 study published in the European Journal of Preventive Cardiology found a correlation of adults who could sit down and stand up from the floor without using their hands had a significantly lower risk of death over the next six years. i'm not trying to suggest that this is the only way to get off the ground... (however this is the movement pattern they used in the study) As a trainer, I look at what a body actually needs to do to achieve that — and let’s just say, there’s a lot going on here. This movement requires core strength, balance, and mobility in the hips, knees, and ankles. Sometimes, in all the talk about strength training for women, we lose sight of these skills too. Our bodies were designed to move throughout the lifespan. We don’t lose that ability just because we age — we lose it because we stop practicing it.
