Last week I formulated a skin-ph rich cream with mango butter, avocado oil, rose and orange blossom hydrosol, glycerin, hyaluronic acid, acacia sap, allantonin, vitamin E, botanical extracts and of course all natural but DAB-quality emulsifier and preservative! I love to always keep improving formulations and adjust according to my skin’s need depending on the season. The mango butter is surprisingly similar to the natural lipids in our skin. Therefore it is easily absorbed. It’s action is similar to Shea butter, but is more easily absorbed in the skin resulting in a non-greasy feeling. It’s an emollient that provides a protective on the skin during cold winter weather, but doesn’t clog your pores. The cream is rich in vitamins E, A and D and is hydrating, moisturising, skin softening and regenerating. Even the fatty acids of the emulsifier are very similar to our own skin’s sebum. Other ingredients helpt to alleviate inflammation, increase skin hydration, relieve dryness, and refresh the skin’s surface. Glycerin is an emollient, which means it can soften skin. This is great if eczema or psoriasis leave you with rough or dry patches. Glycerin also holds antimicrobial properties, which means it can protect the skin from harmful microorganisms. Hyaluronic acid is a highly important component of the connective tissue in the skin. It serves various functions in the body, such as storing water in the skin and lubricating the joints. Due to its high water-binding capacity, hyaluronic acid regulates the skin’s moisture content and improves elasticity and resilience. Emulsions can deliver hydration directly to the skin, helping to maintain and balance its moisture levels. They are easily absorbed by the skin which allows them to penetrate more deeply and deliver their active ingredients effectively. Emulsions are a little more complicated and tricky to formulate and make, but with a detailed description and step-to-step recipe it should be something you could easily master. I’d love to know who would be interested in emulsion making workshops in the future!
