Traditional solvents can be harsh. Especially if you're like me and working in a home studio with animals and small kids running around. To make my life easier, my favourite cleaning method is vegetable oil and an old rag. The vegetable oil breaks down the ink left on the brayer and blocks without leaving the materials from drying out. It's cheap, non-toxic, and works like a charm. The Process 👇 1️⃣ Roll out any excess ink onto scrap paper. 2️⃣ Apply a bit of oil and rub it with an old rag. 3️⃣ Scrub until the ink melts away. 4️⃣ If you must, finish off with warm water and mild soap to remove any residue. This video shows a compilation of experimental printmaking techniques. I am reverse printing, ink rolling, as well as cleaning off my brayers! Sometimes I print my woodblocks directly into my brayer. I then will roll that inked brayer onto a sheet of paper making a distorted version of my woodcut! The end of this video shows how I clean off my brayers using soysolv. After I use soysolv I always wash off my brayers with some soapy water. I then coat them with some French chalk to dry the rubber. Just a little behind the scenes and experimentation to the printmaking process!🤗 - #printandpattern #xilografia #printmakingstudio #artprocess #monotype
