Weaker gravity = faster time. ✨️ So clocks tick differently. A clock on a massive planet runs slower. A clock in orbit runs faster. A clock in deep space runs faster still. ✨️ Interstellar was accurate. One hour on Miller’s planet = seven years on Earth. Why? It orbited a supermassive black hole — extreme gravity = extreme time dilation. ✨️ We see this in real life too. • ISS astronauts age a tiny bit faster • Clocks on Earth’s surface run slower • GPS satellites must correct their time constantly If they didn’t, GPS would drift by kilometers per day. ✨️ Brian Cox’s message: There’s no single timeline in the universe. According to Einstein’s theory of relativity, the universe isn't just space and time, it's a woven fabric called spacetime. And it has a rule: nothing can move faster than the speed of light. Imagine a map where everything that has ever happened is below you, and everything that could happen is above. But you’re not free to move just anywhere—Einstein’s universal speed limit creates boundaries: these are called light cones. 📍 The past light cone includes everything in space and time that could’ve influenced you, events that happened in the past that had enough time for light (or any influence) to reach you. 📍 The future light cone includes every event you can influence, going forward in time, but only if your signals move slower than or equal to the speed of light. ❌ Everything outside those cones? You can never reach or affect it, it’s beyond the limits of causality. Even if an alien 1 million light years away is watching you with a telescope, your signal won’t get there unless it breaks the cosmic speed limit. And it can’t. This is how Einstein "protected the past from the future", by showing us that light is not just a speed, it's a cosmic boundary. #physics #time #astrophysics #spacetime #briancox

A black hole is a region of spacetime where gravity is so intense that nothing, not even light, can escape. They form when very massive stars collapse in on themselves at the end of their life cycle. So far, two historic photos of black holes have been captured. The first, taken by the Event Horizon Telescope team in 2019, shows the black hole at the center of the galaxy M87, a giant elliptical galaxy 55 million light-years away, with a mass about 6 billion times that of the Sun. The second, released in 2022, depicts our own supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A*, located at the center of the Milky Way, with a mass about 4/6 million times that of the Sun.
