If you are a high school student interested in medicine, healthcare careers, or becoming a doctor, there is a pathway to get into medical school directly from high school without going through the traditional premed route. This pathway is called a BSMD program (also known as BA/MD, BS/MD, direct medical program, or combined BS MD program). These combined medical degree programs let you apply in high school, get accepted into an undergraduate pre-medical track, and secure a conditional seat at a partner MD program. Most BSMD programs are 7-year or 8-year medical school pathways. Here’s how BSMD programs work: You complete your bachelor’s degree in science, biology, or pre-med at the affiliated university while meeting requirements like a minimum GPA, specific science and math courses, and conduct standards right after high school. Some BSMD programs waive the MCAT exam entirely, while others require it or set a minimum MCAT score. Many BSMD medical programs offer small cohort sizes, dedicated premed advising, early research opportunities, volunteer work in hospitals, and clinical shadowing with doctors while still in college. Because you lock in your medical school seat from high school, BSMD programs are extremely competitive. Acceptance rates are often in the low single digits, so you need excellent academics, high SAT or ACT scores, AP or IB science courses, and strong healthcare, volunteering, or research experience before applying. If you are a high school student wanting to stand out in your BSMD application with leadership in healthcare clubs, medical volunteering, science fairs, or hospital internships, comment “medicine” and I will show you how to prepare. . . . high school student interested in medicine, high school premed, BSMD program for high school students, direct medical program high school, BA MD high school pathway, BS to MD from high school, medical programs for high school students, future doctor high school, high school healthcare opportunities, high school medicine pathway, BSMD application tips, high school to medical school pathway.

You typically need: 📚 Top of your class 📝 1500+ SAT / 34+ ACT (for many programs) 🎓 Strong AP/IB rigor If your stats aren’t excellent, it’s very hard to get serious consideration. 2️⃣ Depth > random activities They want sustained commitment to medicine ❤️‍🔥 ✔️ Shadowing ✔️ Clinical exposure ✔️ Service with patient-facing populations 20 unrelated clubs ≠ impact. 3️⃣ Show maturity 🧠 You’re asking a medical school to commit to you at 17. They need to believe you understand: – Burnout – Ethical dilemmas – Health disparities – The emotional weight of patient care Not just “I love science and helping people.” 4️⃣ Leadership that actually matters 👩🏽‍⚕️ Not just titles. Impact. Did you: ✨ Build something? ✨ Start something? ✨ Change something? 5️⃣ Research = helpful, not required 🔬 Meaningful research > publication padding. 6️⃣ Interviews matter more than you think 🎤 They’re evaluating: – Emotional intelligence – Communication skills – Insight – Stability – Ability to handle pressure They are asking: “Would I want this person as my future colleague?” 7️⃣ Have a cohesive narrative 🧵 Why medicine? Why now? Why you? Your application should tell one clear story. 8️⃣ Apply broadly 🎯 These programs are unpredictable. Even perfect applicants get rejected.

Did you know that you could apply to medical school as a high school senior? Before I tell you how first… FOLLOW me, SAVE this video, SHARE it with a friend and… COMMENT “🚑” For the full list of BS-MD programs. A BS-MD is a dual program that allows you to get both a BS and an MD in as little as 6 years depending on the program. High school seniors can apply to these programs and skip having to go through the stressful process of applying to medical school and most don’t require students to take the MCAT either! Now these programs are highly competitive and most require students maintain a certain GPA and participate in enrichment programs throughout their undergrad years in order to maintain their medical school acceptance but it is 100% worth it! #premed #premedadvice #medschool #medschoolbound #futuredoctor #futurephysician #womeninmedicine #minoritiesinmedicine #premedical #premedicine #highschoolsenior #collegeapplications #medicalstudent #medicalschool #premedlife #premedstudent #medicine #futurephysician #blackgirlmagic #hbcugrad #hbcupride #howard #drexel #universityofmiami #saintlouisuniversity #universityofillinois #SLU

Direct medical programs (also known as combined BA/MD or BS/MD programs) allow students to be accepted into an allopathic medical school from high school. In other words, students are accepted into both an undergraduate university as well as an allopathic medical school out of high school. There are a variety of programs around the country, each with its own unique requirements, expectations, and benefits. Please read before you miss out on this efficient path🙏 The traditional path to medicine feels like this: High school → college → MCAT → apply → hope. For many students, that means years of uncertainty. But there’s another route — one that starts earlier. Combined BA/MD and BS/MD programs allow students to secure their medical school seat directly out of high school. That’s how I started medical school at 18. And became a physician at 24. This wasn’t about: ❌ Family connections ❌ Thousands of volunteer hours ❌ Being “the smartest” student It was about learning the options early — and preparing intentionally. These programs are competitive. But the real disadvantage isn’t intelligence. It’s awareness. Students who don’t know this pathway exists can’t prepare for it in time. That’s why sophomore and junior year matter so much. ✨ Comment “DOCTOR” if you’re a high school student (or parent of one) who wants to explore whether a direct-entry pathway to medical school could be realistic for you and apply for mentorship. *if you don’t see a message reply it may be due to your settings so in that case DM me the word instead* #premed #futuredoctor #medicalschooladmissions #bsmd #bamd highschoolpremed acceleratemd premedjourney physicianmentor

i was a psych/neuro major in undergrad and took all the prerequisites for med school along w a bunch of cool related classes like the neuroscience of sleep, neuroendocrinology, and developmental psychology. however, I reflect back on my schedule and recall a ton of classes in the catalog that I wished I could’ve taken but wasn’t able to - and these are just some that I suggest based on my med school curriculum and outlook thus far!! MY RATIONALE BELOW: 🫀 anatomy ➜ it would’ve be been great to have foundational knowledge of the organs and their structure + function before beginning anatomy lab in med school - i’ll be starting as a COMPLETE beginner (which is fine) but it would have been good to have some background 📈 biostatistics ➜ all my summer work for med school was based around biostats - and it’s a heavy part of our mandatory research course. if you plan on doing research in med school or even in undergrad, stats is great to have under your belt if you want to pursue a project. 🏥 public health ➜ good to have an idea of social determinants of health & better understand health education, disease prevention, and how classroom knowledge can be translated to making an impact in the world 🔬 immunology ➜ would probably greatly help in the future anatomy blocks to come - especially because I’m interested in allergy medicine! 🧬 cancer biology ➜ especially now that we’re learning about DNA/enzymes/proteins/mutations and disease so in-depth, it would’ve been awesome to be able to connect all this knowledge back to a prominent disease. plus sounded like such an interesting class! 🧠 abnormal psych ➜ cool diseases and treatments, also helps teach you about dealing compassionately with those going through different struggles than you! comment below what classes you wish you took in undergrad / you want to take! ⬇️⬇️ #premed #premedstudent #psychologystudent #neuroscience #medstudent #premedclasses #medschool #medschooldayinthelife #premedmotivation #premedtips #premedadvice #medschoolbound #medschoolmotivation #medschoolposts #futuremd #futuredoctor #medblogger #medstagram

🤩 Here’s 5 tips on how to get ahead before med school - based on my experience and seeing what other med students have done! 🚨AVOID MY MISTAKES 🥶 ps: new research program below… dates tbd 🤫 😊 My personal favorites are 3️⃣, 4️⃣, and 5️⃣ ✅ Lessons from an M1 & Easy Tips: 1️⃣ Shadow different docs until they cry! 🤨 🚨Even if you already got accepted, you WILL be at a disadvantage if you don’t do this. Avg med school starting age is 24yrs old and many older students know EXACTLY what they want to do bc of past experiences so if you don’t have a specialty in mind then you won’t be as focused or competitive 👩🏽‍💻 🥼Summary: Shadow so much that you can perfectly explain the details of a specialty you’d want to do! This will OPEN MANY DOORS 🚪 2️⃣ Take an anatomy class (read this, trust) 🤑 Simple: Grades for students who learned anatomy before med school are WAY HIGHER than those who don’t 🎓 🅰️+ (and you have more free time 😂) 3️⃣ Get super confused about research 🤷‍♂️ 🧐 Lesson: There are multiple ways to get research publications ‼️Tip: Comment “publication” for early entry to my Spring 2025 research workshop where I’ll help students get their first publication on a project WITH ME 📝👍 🏁 Advice: Start your first semester of college and try different types so you enter med school with some background (these ppl get the most opportunities!🤩) 4️⃣ Ignore typical advice and collect notes 🤫 🚫Bad advice from med students: Don’t study anything during the summer before med school! 🤦‍♂️ ✅ Good advice: Save your study materials and look over notes from biochem bc you will relearn 50% of this material at the beginning of medical school! 🫡 5️⃣ Get twice as creative with your life! 🎨🎭 If you spend “X” amount of time doing an activity (🏀🎬💃🎼🥊🥏🎾🎿🚴‍♀️🏋️‍♂️🧩🏓🛹🎻) Do a completely NEW activity/skill starting 2 months before med school interviews! 😉 Here’s why: Talking about doing something new FOR FUN that’s NOT on your application shows your desire to learn/enjoy new experiences 🔑 #MedSchoolACCEPTANCE #premed #medstudent Please comment any questions and I’ll be happy to talk with you!
