Burmese amber pieces are usually small (often a few centimetres) because resin flowed in limited amounts and hardened quickly. Individual trees produced modest resin over time, though rare pieces are much larger, formed by unusually heavy or repeated resin flows. Heavy resin flow in Burmese amber producing trees could be triggered by injury or stress. Damage from storms, insect infestations, fungal infection, or fire could cause the tree to release large amounts of resin as a defense, sometimes creating unusually large amber pieces, like the one seen here! #amber #fossil #paleontologia #arachnid #spider

Check out my recently acquired parcel of Burmese Amber! This collection features one very large piece containing a nice mix of insects. Some of the smaller cabs feature a variety of individual insects trapped in time for at least 100 million years. I think it’s amazing how God preserved these animals in such a cool form for us to collect and enjoy. If you are interested in any of these pieces all, but the largest piece are available.
