Katalizörler reaksiyon tarafından tüketilmez ve reaksiyondan sonra değişmeden kalır. Reaksiyon hızlıysa ve katalizör hızlı bir şekilde geri dönüştürülürse, çok az miktarda katalizör genellikle yeterlidir; karıştırma (mixing), yüzey alanı ve sıcaklık reaksiyon hızında önemli faktörlerdir. Katalizörler genellikle bir veya daha fazla reaktanla reaksiyona girerek ara ürünler (intermediates) oluşturur ve bu ara ürünler daha sonra katalizörün rejenerasyonu sürecinde nihai reaksiyon ürününü verir. 📍Hız artışı, katalizörün reaksiyonun katalizlenmemiş mekanizmadan çok daha hızlı olabilecek alternatif bir mekanizma ile gerçekleşmesine izin vermesi nedeniyle meydana gelir. Ancak katalizlenmeyen mekanizma mümkün olmaya devam eder, böylece toplam hız (katalizlenen artı katalizlenmeyen) sadece katalizörün varlığında artabilir ve asla azalmaz. Kataliz, bileşenleri reaktanla aynı fazda (genellikle gaz veya sıvı) dağılmış olan homojen veya bileşenleri aynı fazda olmayan heterojen olarak sınıflandırılabilir.Enzimler ve diğer biyokatalizörler genellikle üçüncü bir kategori olarak değerlendirilir. 📍Kataliz, her türlü kimya endüstrisinde her yerde bulunur. You make elephants toothpaste!! 🐘 Our cells naturally produce toxic H2O2 through metabolism, which our liver breaks down into water and oxygen gas. By adding a catalyst and some detergent and food dye for effect, we can speed up the reaction rate. You can try this at home with active dry yeast and hydrogen peroxide too. My little science lover has made one thing very clear this school year, and that is to do more science experiments— particularly those that use color, reactions, explosions and mess.
