ANI am spending my weekend exactly where many of you are: at the ball fields watching Peyton and AJ play. As a dad with two sons in travel baseball, I see the hustle, the community, and unfortunately, the growing struggle to find enough space for our local teams to practice and play.
With facilities like Bower Field facing an uncertain future, the pressure on our Seymour families is only increasing. We are at a crossroads where Smart Growth must include a plan for our children’s recreation.
In this week’s edition of Ask Andy, I’m answering a neighbor’s question about how we can finally get a community park and ball fields right here in Seymour.
We don’t need to wait for a “big donor” to make this happen. By looking at successful models in neighboring counties, like the Eagleton facility, we can see a clear path toward a massive Return on Investment for our community. Blount County’s investment is already generating significant annual revenue.
Seymour contributes heavily to the county tax base. It is time for a Stewardship of Tax Dollars that reflects our growth. Providing a safe, professional place for our kids to play is a key part of Protecting our Values and Planning our Future.
