I placed chalk ends in a plastic bag and used a hammer until they were powder. I placed each color in a different section and added water. I then used paintbrushes to mix it together. The result was amazing. Kids loved painting the driveway and it helped finish off the pieces that were too small to draw with. Highly recommend this activity!

CRMom fail? Maybe. Creative kids? Absolutely.
The plan was simple: hammer old chalk into cups, add water, and make chalk paint. Easy, right? Well… hammering was harder than expected, water got way out of hand, and it didn’t exactly turn out like I imagined.
But my kids didn’t let that stop them. My daughter scraped chalk against a ball, painted over water, and kept experimenting. My son dipped his brush in water and chalk chunks, making something completely new.
Expectation didn’t win this time, but curiosity and creativity totally did. And honestly? That’s way more fun anyway.

AL✨ Swirling Color Magic Art ✨
Looking for a fun, hands-on art activity your kids will LOVE? 🎨
Today we’re creating beautiful marbled designs using shaving cream and food coloring—and the results are absolutely magical!
Here’s how it works:
Start with a container of shaving cream and add drops of at least 3 different food colors. Use a popsicle stick to gently swirl the colors together (don’t overmix—you want those pretty swirls!).
Have your child draw and cut out a shape on cardstock (flowers, trees, suns—anything they imagine!). Press the shape face down into the shaving cream mixture, then lift it up and use a flat edge to scrape off the extra.
✨ Watch as the most beautiful swirled design appears! ✨
Let the shapes dry, then glue them onto a background to create a finished masterpiece.
⚠️ Safety Tips:
• Wear gloves when dipping and scraping to avoid stained hands
• Adult/parental supervision is recommended during this activity

If you’re looking for an easy art activity that actually keeps kids engaged, this salt painting butterfly is such a fun one! It looks fancy, but it’s incredibly simple to set up!
All you do is draw your design with glue, sprinkle salt on top, and then let your child gently add watercolor paint. The best part is watching the color travel along the salt… kids are always amazed by how it “moves” on its own. It’s such a fun way to introduce early science concepts like absorption while also building fine motor skills.
For the best results, regular table salt (even iodized salt) works perfectly because the fine grains absorb the paint and help the color spread smoothly. If you want a different look, you can try kosher salt for a chunkier texture, but the color won’t travel quite as easily.
This is a great spring activity for toddlers and preschoolers, and it’s perfect for working on hand control, creativity, and focus without needing any fancy supplies.
