LOIt’s always chapter one… impossible to begin, impossible to end, impossible to make juuuust right. It’s a looming element of doom. But it must be conquered, mastered even, if your manuscript is ever to make it to the shelves.
Some quick tips for writing that tricky first chapter:
1) Don’t overstress. You will have to edit or rewrite it anyway. So just get something, anything, on the page.
2) Find the right approach for YOUR STORY. Sometimes we forget that there are a million ways to begin. So find one that you like.
3) There’s always time to go back. So if you have to, just get it out of the way and when your story is forming up, return to the beginning with new eyes.
