“My name is Mike Blabac, and I’ve been a photographer for the past 30 years. I moved to San Francisco at 19 to skateboard for the summer, and ended up photographing my friends who were pro skaters. This led to working as a photographer and getting a retainer at a skateboarding magazine. My education was being in the streets, creating images for the pages of the magazines that I grew up pouring over as a kid. I’ve had countless cameras over the years, which eventually led me to using Leica cameras. Whether it’s action, portraiture, or scenics, I love the process of creating what I envision using Leica lenses and the M system. “This is The Franken Leica series - if you are unfamiliar with this project, the intent is to give “ugly” Leica cameras a second shot at life, make use of spare parts, and build slightly* more accessible and cost effective cameras for those looking to get their first classic M camera.    All Franken Leicas are serviced to the same standard as their show-room “minty” counterparts. I love underdog cameras and I especially love ugly beat up Leicas. It is a pleasure to pick up one of these cameras and feel how smooth they are running despite their outward appearance.
