Many people think prana is just some mystical life force. But from what I learned from my Tibetan lamas, Indian masters, and through the lens of modern science… �Prana is pressure.� And you control prāṇa by controlling the internal pressures in your body. In classical yoga and Ayurveda, there are five main types of prāṇa (vāyus): – Prāṇa: inward-moving energy (chest, lungs, inspiration) – Apāna: downward-moving (pelvis, elimination, grounding) – Samāna: inward and balancing (abdomen, digestion, assimilation) – Udāna: upward-moving (throat, expression, growth) – Vyāna: outward and expansive (circulation, distribution, integration) Vyāna is especially powerful as it governs blood pressure and the ability to direct flow and force to any part of the body. My teacher Bhim Dev used to bend steel rods with his eyes in front of me. It was no magic, but precise control of pressure and energy. At first, I didn’t believe it. Until I learned to feel it myself. Control the pressure and you control the prāṇa. And when that happens, yoga becomes something very real inside your body not just a stretch or a philosophy.

yoga sutra 1.1: atha yoga-anuśāsanam now, the teachings of yoga. atha = now yoga = yoga anuśāsanam = teaching or exposition for what it’s worth, yoga + anuśāsanam are combined in the sutras to form a compound word: yogānuśāsanam. but i think it helps when learning to separate & break down the various words :)

Yoga Sangraha is a practice of classical Yoga using science and tradition as a sourcebook. These gently dynamic classes combine kriyas and pranayama aimed at expanding lung capacity, digestive and cardiovascular health, coupled with a variety of unique of Sun Salutations, and classical yoga postures. The sequencing of the postures follows the signaling patterns of the nervous system. We group postures together that are calming, integrating, energizing, and grounding in such a way that you are left with a deep sense of calm and inwardly focus. Sangraha means “a collection” or “compendium.” The practices come from the larger Hatha Yoga tradition, and not from any one lineage. These sequences have been put together drawing from experimentation, study, and exploration of classical Hatha Yoga practices and texts.
