Check out this Colugo glide!! 🤯 Flying Lemurs have a deceptive name. Also called Colugos, these small, furry tree-dwellers can’t technically fly, and they’re not technically lemurs. Found in Southeast Asian forests. They can glide incredible distances from one tree to the next, by means of the patagium, a membrane that stretches from their forelimbs to their tail. Genetically they happen to be the closest living relatives of primates. Colugos, often known as 'flying lemurs,' are elusive nocturnal mammals that inhabit the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. Their impressive gliding skills allow them to travel between trees, aided by their unique patagium. Here, a colugo mama and her baby are perfectly camouflaged, highlighting the wonders of wildlife that often go unnoticed. 🌳💚⁣ ⁣ Repost from: @wildlife.in.sg⁣ ⁣ #Discovery #DiscoveryChannel #DiscoverySEA #SEAinFocus #Colugos #FlyingLemurs #Mammals #WildLife

Just hanging around! 🌳😉 The Malayan Colugos (𝘎𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘷𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘨𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘴) are commonly known as Flying Lemurs, however #didyouknow that they are neither lemurs, nor do they fly? 😯 In fact, colugos glide from tree to tree with their wide, membranous limbs, giving them the appearance of flying. These shy nocturnal creatures also use their wide membrane to wrap and carry their young, as expertly captured by @wildlife.in.sg! 📸 #NParksBuzz #NParks #CityinNature #CityinNatureSG #sgnature #sgbiodiversity #malayancolugos #colugos

🦇✨ New animal unlocked: Colugos — and yes, they look totally CGI! Also known as flying lemurs (even though they’re not lemurs or great at flying 😂), these rare gliding mammals look like they were rendered straight out of a video game. Found in the forests of Southeast Asia, colugos use their skin flaps to glide over 100 meters between trees. Nature’s weirdest, most underrated ninja! 🌳🪂 💬 Did you know these even existed? L-O-V-E Colugos? ❤️🩶 Did you know that the Sunda Colugo (Galeopterus variegatus) occur in 2 fur-colour variations? The red or rufous morph of the Sunda colugo (Galeopterus variegatus) is likely due to genetic variation and adaptation to different environmental conditions. While most Sunda colugos have a grayish-coat with patches that look like lichen to help them blend into tree bark, the red morph may provide better camouflage in certain habitats, such as forests with reddish-brown tree trunks or peeling bark. There could also be a link to regional differences or selective pressures, where certain populations developed this coloration due to local predators or habitat preferences. However, the exact reason for the red morph’s occurrence is still not fully understood and remains an interesting topic for further study in mammalian ecology and evolution. Which coloured-morph of the Sunda Colugo is your favourite? . . . #sundacolugo #colugo #flyinglemur #nparksbuzz #sgwildlife #sgbiodiversity #cityinnature #sgpy_biodivercity @wildlife.in.sg #bbcwildlifepotd #raw_wildlife_ #featured_wildlife #birdsofsingapore #nparksbuzz #sgwildlife #biodiversity #wildlifephotography #wildlifelovers @wildlife.in.sg #bbcwildlifepotd #earthcapture #raw_wildlife_ #featured_wildlife #NiFFeature @sonysingapore #SonyAlphaSG #SonySingapore

Sunda flying lemur (Galeopterus variegatus) Colugos are arboreal gliding mammals that are native to Southeast Asia. There are just two living species of colugos: the Sunda flying lemur (Galeopterus variegatus) and the Philippine flying lemur (Cynocephalus volans). Colugos are shy, nocturnal, solitary animals found in the tropical forests of Southeast Asia. Consequently, very little is known about their behavior. They are herbivorous and eat leaves, shoots, flowers, sap, and fruit. They have well-developed stomachs and long intestines capable of extracting nutrients from leaves and other fibrous material. Colugos have evolved into a nocturnal species, along with the ability to proficiently see during the nighttime. Colugos spend their days resting in tree holes and are active at night time; traveling around 1.7 km at night. Colugos may also be a territorial species. Source: Wikipedia

I have only ever seen colugos hop up a tree, but never climbing so lazily. That's a first for me! This is probably the smallest individual I have ever seen (besides those that are still staying with Mommy) and it was absolutely adorable. Couldn't seem to stay asleep for too long, which presented fantastic photo opportunities, especially in bright daylight. #reels #nikonsg #nikonasia #nikoncreators #colugo #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #notasquirrel #notabat #notasloth

This greater racket-tailed drongo was hard to find and even harder to take photos of. Our first encounter was when we unsuccessfully went looking for colugos in Singapore, and, as chance would have it, we saw another drongo in Borneo’s Bako National Park - where we did also manage to see a colugo too! Having the camera really makes such a difference compared to the phone video footage. #phonevcamera #birdphotos #drongo #birdphotography #wildlifephotos
