Not sure how to actually engage your core? Here are 3 tips that actually work!👇 1. Draw your ribs towards your hips - Think of closing the space between your ribcage and your pelvis. This helps switch on your deep abdominal muscles, especially your transverse abdominis. Try doing this on an exhale to really feel the connection! 2. Brace like you’re about to get punched in the stomach - This cue helps fire up your entire core . Imagine someone’s about to hit your stomach, you wouldn’t suck in, you’d tighten and brace. That tension is what we want when lifting weights, doing planks, or stabilising your spine. 3. Knit your ribs together and zip up your abs - Visualise your ribs drawing towards the centre and your lower abs zipping up from your pubic bone to your belly button. It’s like doing up a tight pair of jeans! This helps avoid flaring the ribs and creates full core engagement from bottom to top.

I recommend you Follow @honedfit if you’re sick of yo-yo dieting and want to lose weight & feel comfortable in your body again permanently! Here’s how to get your core firing properly: 1️⃣ Stand tall and take a deep breath in 2️⃣ Exhale fully, drawing your ribs down toward your hips 3️⃣ Gently tuck your tailbone until your low back feels neutral 4️⃣ Your abs should now feel on and ready to work 🔥 Try this standing core series with intention: ➡️ Overhead Hold with Knee Raise – 6–8 reps per leg, 2–3 sets (light-moderate weight) ➡️ Pass Around the Body – 6–8 reps each direction, 2–3 sets (light-moderate weight) ➡️ Suitcase Carry Hold – Hold as long as you can without losing form, switch arms, 2–4 sets (heavy weight) ➡️ Single Arm Overhead Hold – Hold as long as you can, switch arms, 2–4 sets (moderate-heavy weight) ➡️ Standing Woodchoppers – 8–10 reps per side, 2–3 sets (light-moderate weight) Switch on your core, take your time with the form, and feel the difference!
