ZEThis is BY FAR the worst condition that we have ever seen a Corvette Torque Tube in. It’s a miracle that this car was still able to move under its own power…
For those that don’t know, since Corvettes are Transaxle vehicles, the main driveshaft is housed in a casing called a torque tube. It’s common for the bushings and bearings inside the torque tube to wear out over time, so we very often rebuild them with a kit from RPM Transmissions.
Every now and then, a torque tube will be beyond saving and have to be replaced. Hence is the case with this one, but this one was soooo far gone, that the bushing literally came out in powder form…
If you start to hear some unusual noise coming from under the seats in your corvette, please bring it to a shop that specializes in Corvettes to have your Torque Tube checked!
