AD🪄Fairy godmothers exist❗️
Here’s the miraculous story, as succinctly as Ella’s writer mom can tell it:
We’ve known @cosplayfairygodmother for years, from local film groups. She was colorful & lively, sharing her love of costuming & acting.
Then she moved to North Carolina.
Ella conceptualized her third short film centered around an article of clothing that had to be custom made.
Jennifer was my first outreach — checking to make sure she hadn’t moved back.
She hadn’t, but immediately offered to help from afar, offering to be Ella’s fairy godmother on this project. She also knew Ella has always wanted to make her own fashion designs & loves the idea of sitting at the sewing machine, making her creations come to life.
But we agreed it would be best to find someone local, to exchange materials, explain the concept, & ideally… Ella wanted to work with the person to make it herself.
With about 2.5 weeks lead time, referrals were too busy. Then, I did a last-ditch Facecbook post asking for local dressmakers who could help Ella.
🙏🏼Thank you for the flood of recommendations!
💡While that post was up, Jennifer reached out with a “crazy idea,” that turned out to be anything but crazy. She was driving down from N.C. to work an anime cosplay convention in Orlando this particular weekend & invited us to drive over from the Space Coast to meet with her for two evenings, when she finished at the convention.
I couldn’t believe it! Ella had a dance competition in Orlando, & then we were to attend the Broadway tour of Les Miserables the SAME WEEKEND in Orlando, already with hotel booked for those same two nights!
We were 2 miles from each other.
The universe clearly wanted this to happen. Also, turns out we happened to secure a special rate at a new hotel, getting a spacious junior suite with large table & chairs. Tons of room to sew!
🧵Ella brought her sewing machine & fabric — magic happened. We could not be more grateful to Ella’s fairy godmother for spending hours with her after working all day repairing costumes.
