With just a little help and guidance from hands-on teaching with an experienced teacher, all the elements of your current practice can be elevated to the next phase of your authentic pilates journey. The best part is, the most effective tactile, verbal, and visual cues stay with you beyond the moments of the session itself. They extend into your practice forever. Even if you “can’t”- try warming up w diaphragmatic breathing/tactile cuing for transverse abdominis activation but also just doing the pushups this way helps activate my core (so see what works for your body!!) 3. Repost @nicksoto_performance When creating a really fast baseball program, you have got to emphasize power in the weight room, mechanics in the sprint work, and big intent on the purpose of movement. This simple drill is an example of how we are cuing acceleration to maximize every sprint out on the field. The partner offers resistance and the sprint athlete drives at a 45 degree angle. The athlete should focus on hip and knee extension with maximal ground force and limited ground contact times. The resistance partner can feel how much resistance to offer on each rep. Maintain posture and good drive mechanics, and work on really projecting momentum towards the resistance thru the whole kinetic chain. Also work on proper foot placement and shin angles as these are the keys to efficient acceleration patterns. Most importantly work with intent, give each drill the effort and focus it deserves. We did these prior to timing our 30s yesterday.

Why don’t I necessarily post videos of specific “drills”? Last week, I briefly discussed the importance of using constraints and cues to develop more efficient and effective motor function and learning. This was in response to the overuse of vocal and mental cuing. While drills and constraints are the way, it’s the application of them that matters. It’s not just simply performing the drill that will improve the throw—it is the specific application and reason behind why the drill is being performed. There is no single constraint that is better or worse in total. Each constraint is going to elicit completely different response from each athlete. If you are simply just doing constraints or performing drills for the sake of doing them without any rhyme or reason behind it, it’s not going to yield the results you are looking for. It is about finding the right piece to each puzzle, not just guessing and checking. Further into this, constraints should be layered and build towards totality within the throw. There is a certain segmentation that is being stacked here. Just doing a step back or a rocker variation you saw on instagram or twitter is not the answer. There’s really no such thing as “one drill to fix xyz”. There is no “BEST” drill or constraint. There are only mover-specific actions put in place to achieve a more efficient reaction. These are highly specific in most cases.
