BI📊 Kirchenstatistik 2025
Die Kirchenstatistik für das Jahr 2025 ist heute von der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz und den 27 (Erz-)Diözesen der katholischen Kirche veröffentlicht worden. Demnach gehören derzeit 19.219.601 Menschen der katholischen Kirche in Deutschland an – das sind 23 Prozent der Gesamtbevölkerung.
Die Zahlen zeigen unterschiedliche Entwicklungen: Während Taufen (109.028) und kirchliche Trauungen (19.478) erneut zurückgegangen sind, bleiben die Zahlen bei Erstkommunion (152.357) und Firmung (105.334) stabil. 307.117 Menschen sind im Jahr 2025 aus der Kirche ausgetreten. Gleichzeitig gab es 2.269 Neueintritte und 5.443 Wiederaufnahmen.
Positiv entwickelt hat sich erneut der Gottesdienstbesuch, der leicht auf 6,8 Prozent gestiegen ist.
Der Vorsitzende der Deutschen Bischofskonferenz, Bischof Dr. Heiner Wilmer SCJ, erklärt dazu:
„Die Zahlen des Jahres 2025, die wir heute als Kirche in Deutschland veröffentlichen, sind ein Spiegelbild unserer Kirche. Ich bin dankbar für das engagierte Wirken der Hauptamtlichen in unserer Kirche und auch die Qualität in der Seelsorge. Es ist ein schönes Zeichen, dass der Gottesdienstbesuch erneut ganz leicht steigend Zuspruch findet. Und ich empfinde es als positives Zeichen, dass die Zahlen von Erstkommunion und Firmung stabil geblieben sind.
Gleichwohl bedauere ich die nach wie vor hohe Anzahl von Kirchenaustritten. Die Beweggründe sind unterschiedlich, und doch sage ich – weil wir eine Gemeinschaft von Gläubigen durch Taufe und Firmung sind –, dass uns jeder Kirchenaustritt schmerzt. Wir werden weniger Christinnen und Christen in Deutschland, was uns nicht davon abhält – bei allen notwendigen Maßnahmen, die damit verbunden sind –, mit hohem persönlichen Einsatz Zeugnis von unserem Glauben zu geben.“
Zugleich dankte er besonders den rund 600.000 Ehrenamtlichen, die sich in den Gemeinden und kirchlichen Einrichtungen engagieren und das kirchliche Leben mittragen.
