Batman: The Animated Series (1992) — The iconic “Red Skies” seen throughout the series were a result of the artists painting on black paper instead of white. This technique, known as “Dark Deco,” gave the show its signature moody, timeless noir aesthetic that distinguished it from every other cartoon of the era.
Mark Hamill was not the original choice for the Joker. He was only brought in to audition after the initial actor, Tim Curry, had already recorded several episodes. Hamill’s performance was so transformative that he became the definitive voice of the character for decades to come.
The character of Harley Quinn did not exist in the comic books before this show. Created specifically for the episode “Joker’s Favor” as a one-off sidekick, she became so popular with fans that DC Comics eventually integrated her into the main Batman universe.
