MOThree girls. Three journeys. One truth.
Our cochlear implants are tools, not labels. As a deaf woman raising two deaf girls, I can say this with honesty and gratitude:
our cochlear implants have helped us immensely.
They’ve given us access to sound…voices, music, learning environments, everyday moments that matter. They’ve supported communication, confidence, and connection in ways I don’t take lightly.
But support is not identity.
Help is not definition.
Our cochlear implants don’t make us whole, we already were.
They don’t erase our deafness or replace the need for access, understanding, and inclusion.
What truly makes the difference is when the world meets us halfway: captioning, visual communication, inclusive education, and people who understand that deafness isn’t something to overcome-it’s something to respect.
We are deaf with cochlear implants.
Grateful for the technology.
Proud of who we are.
And firm in the belief that deaf children don’t need fixing-systems do.
