The best moment of my entire life. I’m still in complete shock that this is something I got to experience in this lifetime and I could have never imagined the scale of emotions this brought on - Orca hold some BIG energy in them. These 3 Orca swam out of the blue and started coming straight for us, choosing to interact with us 🥹 they were just specs when I first noticed them swimming in, at the start of the video I squealed realising they were coming straight for us - nothing else around, just them and us. They swam in so close, gliding just under our fins, and when they turned around and looked us in the eyes it was the most profound feeling. My whole body was shaking, not once did it in any way feel threatening. I’ve thought long and hard about whether to post this video… but I kept coming back to how much it moved me and gave me a deeper love for this life and the ocean, I hope this video helps to evoke some of those same feelings for you. Our #CorpsofExploration encountered this #BigfinSquid (genus Magnapinna) over 5,100 meters deep while exploring the abyssal plain in the waters of the #CookIslands. These #cephalopods are rarely ever seen by humans (with fewer than two dozen recorded sightings and no physical collections), since they are the only squid known to live as deep as the hadal zone. The #squid’s distinctive morphology includes extra-long tentacles and arms with microscopic suckers, and “elbows” likely used to catch and eat planktonic crustaceans. Moments like this —meeting rare ocean life —remind us all how much we have to learn about the deep ocean.

The speed 👀 A humanoid robot just learned to do a wallflip entirely through AI. The project was developed by researchers at Amazon’s Foundation Agents and Robotics team, using two systems called OmniRetarget and BeyondMimic. OmniRetarget uses deep learning to study how humans move and adapt those motions to a robot’s body and physics. BeyondMimic builds on that with reinforcement learning, allowing the robot to practice the flip repeatedly until it lands perfectly with no manual coding involved. After a few tweaks, it achieved a 5/5 success rate in real-world wallflips, showing how AI is now teaching robots complex, athletic skills once thought impossible. [ zhenkirito123 I X ]
