Quantum Mechanical formalism. Instead of classical notion of trajectory which we used to describe the motion of a particle because we didn’t have the uncertainty between coordinate and momentum (velocity, p=mv, where m - mass of a particle, p is momentum, v - velocity). We could define the initial coordinates and velocities, that would define the further motion of our classical system. In quantum scenario we introduce the complex function - wave function, which is not observable itself bc our detectors observe real physical quantities. However the square of module can be, it is the probability to observe a quantum system (electron, atom, photon, etc) in a specific quantum state with some certain parameters which define the state (for qubit on atoms it could be F, m - total momentum and projection of it). For photon: certain momentum (wave vector), certain polarization.
