OCMobula rays are some of the deepest divers in the ocean and one of the most intelligent fish!
This fever of Mobulas was shot in Baja California in Mexico which is home to five types of devil rays. Sometimes called flying rays, Mobulas can leap out of the water, a fact which is still unknown as to why by scientists. It is thought to be either an attempt to impress each other, a method of communication through the vibration they create when they land in the water or a way of cleaning off parasites.
This stunning aerial shot was captured by @alexsharks_ during his work guiding ethical encounters in Baja California in Mexico.

WASpinetail Devil Ray just gliding on past me.
Inhabiting offshore waters, this species of mobula ray is among the most commonly caught ray in fisheries. On top of that the global demand for dried gill plates of these rays continues to rise, greatly affecting their numbers.
I feel lucky to have had this close up interaction and I’m glad I can share the beauty of these animals with others.

NAMobula rays (also known as devil rays) are known for their massive migrations — sometimes traveling hundreds of miles across the open ocean in synchronized groups that can number in the thousands! During these migrations, they often leap out of the water in graceful flips — possibly to remove parasites, communicate, or just show off their acrobatics.
